The good: The staff greeted us immediately upon arrival. Everyone seemed friendly at first...Both stars belong to the banana bread. It’s the best I have ever tasted in my life! It’s super moist and full of the sweet spiced bouquet you love when you think of banana bread (cinnamon, nutmeg, etc.) I wanted to order a loaf of just the banana bread to take with me.
The bad: We were asked if we had a reservation and I looked around the restaurant. The inside dining room has plastic lawn chairs pushed up to ‘poker night with the boys in my garage’ style tables. I didn’t mind the tables/chairs but it just didn’t seem like the type of joint where you need a reservation. I told the hostess we did not have a reservation because we were recommended the restaurant earlier that day from an employee at a local resort.
The hostess told us to follow her and proceeded to direct us to the outdoor dining patio. She placed our menus on a table that was so far in the back of the patio that it was basically on dirt ground. The other diners were trying to not stare but I saw the looks and so did the rest of my party (we were a party of 4—two couples) Is it the 1940’s again?
After asking for a table that wasn’t in another zip code, we were asked to wait and about 10 minutes later we were seated in the inner dining room. The table was dirty and the seating was tight but I kept it moving because we were so excited to try the food.
After ordering our food, we realized we had made a big mistake. The crab cakes taste like nothing I’ve ever tasted before—it was very unpleasant. I don’t like to call anyone’s cooking nasty but this food did not taste good. Everyone else in my party agreed about their dishes as well. Everything is covered in this “sauce” that reminds me of baby milk mixed with egg yolk. Amongst my party, we ordered: crab cake appetizer seafood dip appetizer, conch fritters appetizer, lobster and clams in red sauce, crab cakes entreé...and two other entreés. After trying a forkful of each other’s dishes to make sure we were not tripping, it was a no-go. The only food I co-sign from this place is the banana bread.
We left full plates on the table, asked for the check, paid for our bill and left. We ended up grabbing dinner...
Read moreLovely staff, but definitely concerned about ordering GF, an item noted in the menu as being served over rice, and my expensive dish coming out over (not GF) pasta! Then the redo, the seafood was cold, over warm vegetables, so that tells me they didn't actually redo the meal. I fully realize my allergy is my own problem and I take an inherent risk when I order. But they literally have a GF menu, this was discussed at time of ordering. The seafood was tasteless, and overdone. (Again, how I doubt they actually redid my order) None of the clams would open, I pried one and regretted it on first bite. To go to a seafood restaurant and have the best part be your "wine frose" is disappointing, for sure. And despite signs and printing in the menu as "no smoking/ no vaping" a blind eye was turned to the table of 6 where 3 had their vape pens going for the entire time. Luckily, it's a great outdoor seating area and there's a good breeze. Every staff member except the manager was very friendly. The manager is the type that will ask you if everything is okay as they continue to walk past your table and not wait for the answer. He seemed rather annoyed that my dish was being sent back. I don't blame him, it's a waste of money (although I'm doubtful they replaced the seafood, but didn't argue) that could have been avoided with proper communication to the kitchen. There's way better food in the immediate area, was trying for something different but won't be back to Lazy Lobster. Glad I picked up these delightful cards though! They help support an artist with special needs to get further training. There were several designs, if you DO go to this restaurant, stop at the host stand and get a set,...
Read moreWe had such a great weekend in the Keys and then to top it off we stopped at Lazy Lobster which we were told by a friend had amazing soup and key lime pie so, I couldn't say no and man I'm happy we didn't! We're casual people and just came in to sit at the bar and we came upon Papito AKA french fry the bartender who is such a lively spirit and so nice and just what you want from a bartender... every person we encountered there was so nice and you could tell genuinely liked where they worked and we're proud of their products and what to suggest even coming into our conversations which I appreciate people that work there and their enthusiasm. It shows their proud of their work, and they love the food they put out and the people they work for! We weren't that hungry b/c we were at a horrible place before that LOL ...but my fiance had the seafood bisque and I had some kind of interesting conch Patty with like a lemon sauce that was delicious and of course we had a couple drinks and they even made something off menu as I wanted a key lime colada... the key lime pie we had to finish off with along with a sampling of the coconut cake they make in-house ... everything homemade was the bomb. They also have a homemade complimentary banana bread ... yum!! We even ordered an additional piece of key lime pie to take home and we told them we will not be forgetting you as we'll be back in 2 weeks for my fiance's birthday, and he is getting whatever Lobster he wants lol!!! We love the atmosphere, the staff and the food and there's actually a happy hour as well if you can make it there as it stops at 6:00 pm... see you guys soon,...
