Note: We visited this place by looking great reviews but beware may those who reviewed +ve don't know about Indian food or may be treated differently.

At this moment I can only think of a infamous dialog of CheeniKum movie by Amitabh Bacchan. "Indian Restaurant ke naam pe Bhole Bhale angrejo ko bevkuf banate hain"

Rate : There is no option to provide negative.

Review : I don't have anything which I can give even a single positive about place except Maharaha is in a so beautiful place like Sarasota.

I know this is little harsh and races comment but if really they don't like Indians then put a note outside.

Owner come manager come runner was most rude person I have seen in restaurants. He was thinking we were never eating outside and first time visited a restaurant. Yes we visited Maharaja first time and that's our last time, we will never go to this greedy place again.

While taking order he literately asked us that we should go for starter otherwise our stomachs will not get full. He literally pushing us for ordering starters, and yes we ordered Samosa because my kid loves it. Then he said that 2 Samosas will not be enough for 3 person. Wow, now he was really thinking he was a nice sales person.

While taking main order he said better to place 2 dishes as one will not be sufficient, and said if want to order more Rotis/Naan we should placed order now as later if more customers comes then it will be difficult to meet our demand. Really I have seen only 2 customers came after us.

Now a last thing, he forced us to pay 18% gratuities in our check. Wow since when Florida started taking automatic gratuities on order for party of 3 plus one infant.

Something about taste, when we order Paneer Makhani as Spicy it came up sweet and when we asked about same they were saying because of White people they always makes mild. Wow, I asked for spicy and they can't make it. It looks like all taste are blend and made from ready to eat food packets available in stores.

Sirji, Saradarji a Turban Man, you may earn money as your place is in prime tourist place like Sarasota but you will not definitely retain...

The owner served us, and made sure we were happy and had all we needed. He was very kind and customer friendly! Food was AMAZING!!!

ABOUT A WEEK AND A HALF LATER... My husband and I came back to this restaurant with a friend and her husband, who were in from out of town, celebrating their 20th wedding anniversary. The owner approached us, and remembered my husband and I! This made us feel nice, as this was our second time ever being here! The food was even better this time around, I thought! I ordered my usual, chicken korma (amazing, bold flavors!), my husband ordered the goat biryani, and our guests ordered lamb dishes. The peshwari naan is always soo good, so I got 2! The onion and mint chutneys were pretty good (I'd have to admit that I prefer the ones at a particular restaurant in Kissimmee, where we used to live, but they were still very good here!) But the raita yogurt was amazing! It actually printed me to try to learn to make it at home!

*We were worried that we wouldn't be able to make it in time to eat, as we went to see the sunset at siesta key beach. We didn't arrive here until 915pm, and they still let us in! Although they closed at 10pm, they didn't rush us to leave. We ended up leaving close to 1030pm (sorry again, guys! But THANK YOU!!!)

I was reading the older reviews and am dumbfounded by so many negative ones! Maybe there are good days and bad days, and we were lucky enough to come in on the good days?! I hope that, since we came here over a month ago, that the previous concerns were fixed and taken care of. I would hate to have a negative experience here! There are 2 Indian restaurants near my home in North Port, but I would say that in terms of flavor, this one beats them all... I would definitely drive the 31 miles each month for this yummy flavor explosion...

I would not give even one star to this place . I am originally from India and so I am very familiar with the authentic Indian cuisine . I have tried many different Indian restaurants over here in Florida. This restaurant smelled like very hot spices cooking and they should have professional vents/exhaust system chimney in their kitchen .My kids started sneezing and we were coughing. When asked ,the server said that they were cooking chicken inside.

This restaurant gives very small portions of food (which lacks flavor)for a very high price .Their portions are rediculously small which I have never seen at any Indian restaurant. The quality and flavor was lacking .We ordered a chicken Rogan josh and a Paneer dish and both were disappointing in taste .

Raita bowl was a joke for its size and was watered down .They seemed very cheap on their quantity and quality . Usually ,Indian restaurants give some red raw onions on the side (if you ask ).When ,we asked for some raw onions on the side ,they brought white onions and charged $ 4.00 extra . The food is rediculously expensive and not worth it .The $101.00 ,I paid are gone down the drain and I regret going to this place .

I would not recommend this place ,a complete rip off for the quality and quantity you get .

The name of the restaurant “Maharaja “which means “king” in Indian language is ironic because there is nothing good about this place .

All the good reviews are from people who are not even familiar with the the authentic Indian cuisine and who don’t know what to expect .OR they might be their friends helping them out by rating them with 5 stars .

This restaurant has no competition in the area and is the only one so they can monopolize and charge a very high price for a low quality food but trust me ,you can drive around a bit and find some good Indian...

The buffet at Maharaja Indian Cuisine Restaurant is both delicious and a great value! As of the date of this posting, the buffet costs $21.39 (after tax) and is available between 11 a.m. - 3 p.m. everyday, except Tuesday, when the establishment is closed. I was pleasantly surprised to learn that included within the buffet were 10 plant-based dishes, as well as salad, in addition to the animal-based dishes (options change depending on the day, but some dishes remain constant). The bottled water was complementary and one had a choice between a side of whole wheat Roti (plant-based) or Naan. The plant-based options were indicated by a "V" labeled on each dish's identification placard. I found the Chana Saag, Aloo Zucchini, and Dal Tadka to be especially appetizing. The staff were attentive and provided hospitable service. The proprietor was friendly and welcoming, answering any questions I had regarding the food. Prior to arriving at Maharaja, I had visited a different Indian buffet in downtown Sarasota, where to my disappointment I was informed that they did not have any plant-based options available within their buffet. However, I was grateful to discover how inclusive Maharaja's buffet was because they resolved any potential issues that may have arisen due to my "restrictive" dietary preferences. Overall, I recommend patronizing this restaurant and buffet! They offer a really tasty, diverse assortment at a reasonable cost!

Good food, terrible service... Thanks to Chris. We asked for water and it came 20 minutes later even though there was only one other table besides ours on a Monday night at 8:00 p.m.! He didn't even clear any plates the entire night and when the dessert came he didn't even serve us new spoons! We had to wipe off curry spoons with napkins!! Then when my father needed another to go box and I proceeded to ask him for one, Chris told me that I only asked for the two! I looked at him and said, "well I need another one!" I also asked him for my tamarind and cilantro sauce to go (because I ordered a pompadam to go! Which he never brought)... but I did not make him feel bad about it; the way he did when I asked for my father's second box. Not the greatest ambience, terrible service but I say if you order food from here, get it to go ... I would come back but I would never eat here in person again. PS they charge you gratuity probably because they know they have terrible service (over 5 people). Rasoi Indian in GulfGate has wonderful service but closed on Monday (hence why I was here at this Grand mistake). Do what you will with this overpriced Indian cafeteria restaurant... better off trying Rasoi in GulfGate or Curry Station on Clark! Never had a bad experience either place.
