I arrived here around 8:05pm with my 2 sons after a long, hot day at Legoland! It wasn’t that busy when I arrived. They have a decent sized dining area. There is a sign that the lobby closes at 9pm.
I went to the counter to review the menu. I noticed some of the “specials” aren’t really specials. Example, large gourmet pizza and 12 wings special is $36.24 but separately, a large gourmet pizza is $18.97 and 12 wings is $13.19 which equals $32.16. Even an XL gourmet pizza ($21.56) plus wings is $34.75, which is cheaper than the “special”. I went through a few of the “specials” and the same applies. The “gourmet” pizzas are even cheaper when you simple add on the toppings.
I placed my order around 8:15pm. I got a large pizza (pepperoni and sauce), garlic knots, 12 wings (garlic parm) and 3 drinks ($1.60) a piece. They don’t have fountain drinks. The total was $40.67. I told them I wanted it for here and was told they would bring it out to us.
There is one tv in the dining area that played Nickelodeon. They have a paper towel dispenser on the wall near the kitchen entrance. That area looks like a bar area. That is also where the condiments are located.
The Garlic knots came at 8:32pm, the Pizza came at 8:34pm, and the wings came at 8:37pm. All of the food was hot, in temperature. The pizza was great, no complaints!
The wings were lackluster in taste. The Parmesan cheese overpowered the garlic versus them being complimentary. Additionally, it seemed like the Parmesan was just added on top versus the wings being tossed in them both. It didn’t fit up to my liking for garlic parm wings. The garlic knots were huge and tasty. However, it seemed that the butter and garnish was only on one side versus all sides.
Overall, it was a decent experience. The two staff present were friendly. I recommend ordering food from the menu versus using the “specials” if you really...
Read moreLived here in Winter Haven for 5 years and still trying different pizza places. This weekend it was MJ's New York Style on Cypress Gardens Road. We ordered an XL cheese, onion, ground beef, and pepperoni for takeout. Unfortunately I neglected to take a photo. Visually the pizza was unexceptional but looked good The cheese came close to the edge which was about 3/8" and not a big bulky bread stick thickness. The bottom had the faint diamond pattern one gets from baking the pie in a steel mesh pan. The crust was firm enough to pick up without it flopping over. The toppings were ample and well adhered to the tasty cheese. The sauce contributed its tomato-ey goodness, sweet with a hint of acid, that complemented all the ingredients. The crust, thin but not cracker crisp, was the star! Unlike other pizzas in the area we have tried, it had an unmistakable hint of sweetness and featured well-formed glutens. It had the perfect balance of crunch and chewiness that Barb and I both found exceptional. It did not have a charred wood-fired character, which we also enjoy, but that is not to detract from it at all, because it was quite delicious! Not a scrap of crust remained on our plates, a rare occurrence for my wife. To sum up, a perfectly balanced pizza where no one element overwhelms another, reminiscent of a neighborhood NYC slice, of which we are both familiar. There are more shops to try, but this one jumped into top tier status with us.
NOTE: Had two slices for breakfast the next morning. Warmed up the oven and my pizza stone to 450F and placed the slices directly on the stone for 9 minutes. Nothing better with strong coffee in the...
Read moreJust had the worst experience tonight and never had a problem with them before. I ordered buffalo wings with celery, fries and California wrap. Over an hour later they delivered my food and the guy who delivered it was the same guy who took the order. He didn't put my California wrap on my order so I called the store and was told they would put my order out first but would take half an hour. I wanted to speak to a manager and was told he wasn't in so the girl took my name and number. I open the box of wings and the celery was four little pieces of the leafy part of stalk. I call back to ask when he would be in so I can call. She says 45 mins as I'm about to ask for his name she hangs up. I call back and the person picks up and hangs up. I call back a third time and they let the phone ring. So I call the Lakeland store to ask if there's a manager I can speak to since I can't get a hold of one at the Winter Haven location and that I keep getting hung up on. That store tells me they will call them and to wait 5 mins for them to find out what's going on. Been over an hour now and never heard from them. I'm very disappointed since my family and I enjoy their food. We didn't mind the wait either because it's good food but this just ruined the experience and makes me not want to order...
