Incredibly friendly staff and delicious food!
This review is long overdue, but earlier this year we (from Canada) were on vacation in Florida and took our kids to LegoLand. They had a long, fantastic day but at the end, in the evening, they were tired and HUNGRY (and potentially headed for a "hangry" meltdown). We found Deli Basket using a lucky Google search and as we came up to the storefront, we noticed that we had just arrived as they were closing up shop. Instead of turning us away, as they would have been well within their rights to do, they welcomed us inside and re-opened the kitchen, just for us. Not only that, but they engaged with our children in a delightful way, even letting our son help serve up the food. We ate some delicious sandwiches: turkey, a cuban, grilled cheese for our youngest two. And to top it all off, as we ate our food in a friendly place, staying open past it's usual time just for us, they gave our kids some complimentary cupcakes. It turned what could have easily been a kid meltdown and not-fun 2-hour drive back to our hotel into a wonderful ending to a near-perfect day. This place is amazing: the people are genuine and friendly and they make great sandwiches. I wish we were local, as we would come back regularly, but I hope this place has a...
Read moreTotally disappointing. I even phoned this place and was told, yes, they make really good hot pastrami sandwiches. Of course they will say that. Unfortunately it was far from the truth. If you like your pastrami salty, greasy, dry, and tough, then this the place for you, yummy, I think not. This is not an authentic deli. Asked the server if they had a steamer, she said no, they heat it up in the oven. So you take the meat out of the fridge, slice it, and them warm it up in the oven. Guess thatâs why it was all of the above. Only plus was the fact the sandwiches had a lot of meat on toasted rye. Why do you toast it, I have no idea. Anyway the sandwiches were large, I think they wanted to get rid of this meat. They donât even buy their meat from a meat supplier. (buy from Publix). I make my own pastrami, takes 7 hours in the smoker, then 12 hrs in the fridge, then 2 hours in a steamer till it's heated to 203F, and only then is it sliced and served. Okay, this place has been removed from my GPS. So far we have visited 8 delis , and have only felt one was decent, and it certainly wasn't the Deli Basket. Have to make a return visit just to make sure...... There is a plus to this review, the dill pickle...
