Bad first experience. Wife and I were very excited to try this place after looking at the menu online...perfect pub food. The interior of the location is dark and cozy. No seats available at the bar so we sat at a table nearby. The coziness was immediately drowned out by the TV volumes. Maybe it was so loud bc it was the playoffs, but wow, we couldn't have a conversation across the table. A server is assigned to these tables. Maybe not the best coverage setup bc they're also covering tables in the main room. Server was nice though. We placed a drink order and two appetizers. Drinks came. Oof, my wife's margarita was bad, seemed like all sour mix. There were two bartenders working so I took the drink to the other bartender (the one that didn't originally make our drinks) and she remade it perfectly. I got the vibe that this wasn't the first time this had happened.
Seats opened at the bar and we moved over. Appetizers came. We got traditional pub food: loaded fries and wings. I'd ordered all flats with side of blue cheese and got drums and flats and ranch. Not a huge issue. Server took it back to make it right. Both appetizers were tasty.
Shift change at the bar. We ordered turkey club and the philly cheesesteak (I saw someone else get this and it looked really good). I ordered a beer while we waited for the food.
Side note: Management replaced the traditional beer taps with animals and taped labels behind the bar. I could see the bartenders constantly looking at the labels to make sure they were pouring the right beers. I'm sure they have their reasons but it makes the bartender's (already stressful) job harder.
Beer finished, no food yet. I order another beer (this one was flat) and then asked the bartender for an ETA on the food and recognized the "oh, sh*t" look on her face. She forgot to place our order. That capped our time at Old Tom's and we got dinner at another restaurant.
We're all human and make mistakes but altogether it was a bit too much. I'm hoping this was a one-off and will try this place again before writing them...
Read moreI went for lunch with my husband and son. Waited 20 minutes for the waiter to come with utensils, water and menus. There was only one waiter, finally we were able to order and then waited about 30 minutes for food to be brought to the table.Only my son's and mine came and he was was ok with it. However, my pull-pork sandwich was messy and extremely greasy, I ordered waffle fries and got regular fries. When told the waiter he said to keep those and he would bring the ones I ordered, which took another 15 minutes. My husband's salad took another 10 minutes to come and then despite having asked for dressing on the side, it was swimming in it. No refill on soda or water were offered. When the bill came two of the prices were more than on the menu. Asked for manager, she came over, no introduction, she said that they charged me more because I asked for waffle fries, and that the sandwich price was correct even though the menu said otherwise. I explained that nowhere in the menu said waffle fries were an extra charge and that I should be charged for the sandwich the price in the menu. She was totally inefficient, didn't apologized or changed her tune, only repeated what she had told me before and refused to fix anything. I gave cash tip to the waiter because I felt sorry for him being the only waiter, but not because the service was good. The food left much to be desired and the manager should had been trained properly in order to represent the establishment. It was the worst lunch...
Read moreCancelled my reservation/poor communication. This restaurant took my reservation and then refused to honor it a few hours before we arrived.
On 5/28 around 1 pm I went to Old Toms and purchased lunch to go. The young lady working the counter encouraged me to come back the following day for game 7 of the NBA Conf. Finals. She said I could make a reservation in advance.
I called back at 3 pm that day and spoke to a gentleman that took my reservation for 8 people for 5/29. He even encouraged me to make the reservation an hour before the game; 7:30 pm.
I then received a phone call from a woman a few hours prior and was told they had to cancel my reservation because they âdonât take reservations the nights of big gamesâ. When I asked why they took my reservation to begin with she said the person taking the reservation âmust have not knownâ. I asked to speak with a manager. The manager pretty much repeated the same thing. I replied it wasnât my fault they were improperly trained. She said she would have the General Manager give me a call at 5:30 pm to work it out. I never received a phone call.
I had high hopes for this place but first impressions mean a lot. I guess establishing myself and seven of my friends as regular customers isnât really a priority on the ânight of a big gameâ. Sorry Old Toms, you lost the business of 8 separate families tonight. Hope you donât continue to do business this way. Iâm happy to discuss with the GM if she ever...
