Old Vines is an ambitious new edition to the growing list of choices at Mercato. On a monday evening off season at 7:30PM there were 3 couples at the indoor bar and three people sitting outside, we opted for outside with large red umbrellas facing the JCrew store across the street. Away from the noisier section of Mercato near the clubs, we were able to relax and hear each other. The inside had great subdued lighting, with cozy seating in a dark wood motif and everything was pleasing to the eyes, with the tables set with candles, water glasses and silverware wrapped in cloth napkins. Everything was clean. There were 6 people seated at the bar eating and along with the rest of the restaurant it was a CLEAN & NEW and upscale version of that warm Wall Street bar, the vibe is older, not stuffy and you want things right. The matradee greeted us and could not have been nicer and offered indoor or outdoor seating, in a way, that made us feel very welcome. Our waitress was sunshine on two legs. My wife ordered a glass of prosecco and I tried their Black Magik coktail. Both were good. We were never rushed and the waitress was attentive and kind and took her time with my wife to answer all her questions and she knew each dish and the preperation and ingredients well. We opted to order 4 plates as a tasting since it our first time. 3 small plates and an entrée. The PEI Mussels, Mushroom Toast, Chicken Meatballs and Salmon over Chickpeas.
The PEI Mussels were some of the best I've had. Fresh, cleaned the right way, tender and in a broth that Le Bernardin would be jealous of. The Crostini was prepared well but the oil seems a tad off, but not enough to ruin them. The mussels were so good and broth called for more bread but I opted for a spoon.
The chicken meatballs came in a small Le Creuset sort of enameled pot and they were spiced perfectly with a lovely thick reduced tomato sauce with a hint of ricotta cheese. Bravo... but I wanted just a touch more cheese and some bread to clean the pot. Good dish!
The mushroom toast was ambitious but the bread was not tosted enough, the spices on the flavors didn't work for me. The oil that was used on the Crostini "came out again" and unfortunately was more prevalent here and of the 4 dishes we tried it would be the only one we would not recommend.
We ordered the salmon med/rare but it came med. No biggie, my opted not to say anything and enjoyed it.
I think the newcomer to Mercato hasgreat potential and as we shop and enjoy everything that Mercato has to offer.... Ill be back for those beautiful crazy...
Read moreWe recently dined at Old Vines Mercato for a celebratory dinner with colleagues while in Naples on business. We had an outstanding experience. From the thoughtfully curated food and drink menu, to the warm and genuine service, to the laid back yet sophisticated ambiance, everything was top notch from start to finish.
As soon as we walked into the restaurant, we were warmly greeted by the staff who promptly brought us to our table. We were lucky enough to be seated at the “Captain’s Table” which comfortably seats eight and is great for conversation and privacy while still feeling apart of the dining room. There were many dishes that excited us on the menu. Our server, Jessica, effortlessly helped us curate a well rounded menu for the evening, including the perfect wine pairings throughout, satisfying a variety of palates. Her knowledge of the menu and wines was truly impressive. We ordered a mix of cheese and charcuterie, various small plates like the Brussels sprouts and signature Chicken Meatballs for the table, and individual entrees such as the Duck Breast and fan favorite Bolognese - all were a hit. The owner came over to us mid meal to genuinely welcome us and check in on our experience, which was very much appreciated. We ended the meal with two desserts that were easily shareable and the perfect end to the dinner.
Having come for a special dinner where we ordered several dishes and bottles of wine, we were pleasantly surprised at how reasonable the bill was. Old Vines is fine dining that is approachable and designed really for any occasion - whether a special meal like ours / business dinner, a date night, or an impromptu night out with friends. Old Vines also has an expansive bar area and beautiful al fresco seating. We look forward to coming back for another superb dining experience at Old...
Read moreOld Vines was absolutely incredible. The vibe is next level. If you love wines and interesting cocktails, this is your place. The Executive Chef, in my opinion, is one of the best chefs in Naples. Very talented. Their menu is very interesting and unique. It's definitely a foodies paradise. Being a chef myself, I must give credit to this restaurant. (What I had) Customized Charcuterie board. I chose Foie Gras Torchon, Prosciutto di Parma, Telleggio, and Basque cheeses. The Foie Gras Torchon is THE Best in Naples, probably all of swfl. I had many in town & I make my own at my restaurant. The flavors inside their foie gras torchon were magical. Really special. Koji rubbed, Prime New York Strip was very interesting. I've never experienced a Koji rubbed steak before. I've always wanted to try it, but now I have, it was delicious. The sauce with the steak was very concentrated & flavorful. We didn't have room for dessert. But promise to go back and try whatever they have available. I must mention our server, Penny. She's probably one of the most professional, polite, knowledgeable servers I have ever had the privilege to meet. She was incredible. I will request her service on my next visit. Overall, it is a very lovely, modern, unique restaurant with great offerings in all areas. Very well-rounded menu, their Wines are incredible (I read the menu). Cocktails hand crafted with quality ingredients. What more do you want for a night out? Hang out in a cool environment with friends or your spouse and indulge in fine food & drinks. Not too loud, not too brite, not too dark, beautiful decor. I must say, I am very impressed with this Old Vines location. I must try their paired wine dinners, I heard they're...
