I made my order for delivery at the Orange Park location, not through a delivery service but straight from the Outback Steakhouse website. Unfortunately there was a misunderstanding with my order and when I tried to add a side order of mashed potatoes to a kids meal - I was charged twice which turned my $75 bill into $175! I called the restaurant right away and spoke with the manager on duty and explained to him what happened. I found him to be very unprofessional and rude and even though I told him I was more than willing to return the extra food I did not order first thing in the morning, he told me that was unacceptable and would not work with me if I did not return it immediately. My daughter had taken my car to work that evening and with her working the 11p to 7:00a shift it would be impossible for me to return anything that night. Shortly after my interaction with the manager I got a text message survey asking me how everything was. I gave them a one-star rating and explained the mix-up on the survey. Shortly after I sent my survey answer, I was surprised by a text message from the proprietor of the Orange Park location. When the owner of the location actually reached out to me himself and called me the following day I was surprised. I told him exactly what happened and I let him know about the unprofessional attitude is manager had. After discussing the issue with him he apologized for the misunderstanding and he quickly righted the wrong. I still had the second order bagged, completely untouched, and in my refrigerator ready for me to return to the restaurant but the owner said not to worry about it. I found the owner to be very professional, friendly, and quick to right a wrong. Because of my personal interaction with him I will order from this Outback Steakhouse again and I will recommend eating there to family and friends but I have to admit it is with hesitation that I recommend it. With past interactions with staff and managers being what I consider very poor, I feel that the owner seems to be trying to make a change for the better and make this location a place customers would love to come to. He's got a long hard road in front of him to bring his restaurant up to par. He definitely needs to work a lot more with the management but also desperately needs to work with his cooks at his location because the food standard coming out of the kitchen is no where near as good as it should be, but he's definitely on the right path in my opinion by taking customer feedback seriously. We got to the restaurant at 5 and the host let us know that since we had 6 adults and 4 babies, we would have to wait 30 minutes until another server came into work. I personally thought that was dumb because they werent busy and a whole section was almost empty with dirty tables all over it.
The host then went ahead and sat everyone else walking into the restaurant after us regardless of party size, and told us they didn’t want to overload the server by adding such a large party to their section without another sever available. About 7-10 different parties came in between that time so we got agitated and asked if someone could seat us and at least serve us in the meantime since now they were taking so many people before us and it was going to make us wait about an hr total before getting service with the amount of people coming in. Its not like they were overloaded with people waiting when we got there and we were the only ones waiting as people still came in so I asked the host why they couldn’t get someone to help us in the meantime and he told me they didn’t have staff to serve everyone. I really felt like the manager could’ve helped us because he was just standing on the wall not doing anything, and as a good leader he could’ve jumped in to assistst us while waiting on the other server to arrive.
At 5:15 the manager Angel came over and told us that we “literally only had 15 more minutes to wait” and if the server didn’t come in on time, he would then seat us. I didn’t understand why they were making us wait for someone who wasn’t already at work, and why we couldn’t be accommodated but yet they could add 4-5 more tables to each person anyway with the amount of people walking in after we got there who were actually seated. We decided to wait for the server Kristin who was actually wonderful, so I’m happy we did wait but i wanted to leave becauseuse i didn’t likee the way we were treated.
The manager came back over once we got our food (mid at best) and then tried to explain to us that we shouldn’t have been agitated because anyone else would’ve just waited the 30 minutes with no complaints. We didn’t see any black families walking in, so we kinda assumed the manager had an issue with us because he was so rude from the time we walked up to us and we never actually asked to speak with him. He interrupted our dinner to argue and make it worse, and really tried to ruin a fun family...

I parked in the spot I was supposed to got out went and knocked on the door like I was supposed to waited about five minutes nobody came. I got back in my car. I called out back the girl who answered the phone said oh no that order is not ready yet and I said I’m sorry I said I got back in my car cause it’s like 80 something degrees. She goes. Oh it’s OK. It’s understandable no problem. We’ll bring out your food., 17 minutes later, nobody had brought out the food I had to go to the restroom. I went to go use the restroom. I came right back. I wasn’t even gone five minutes. I waited another 15 minutes. Finally I see a girl come out the side door to hand people their food And I said yeah is so-and-so’s food ready yet she goes. Oh that’s been ready. That’s been sitting on the shelf for a half an hour. I said I’ve literally been waiting here over a half an hour. She said well there was nobody outside then she proceeded to say we don’t bring orders outside to the drivers you gotta come up to the door, I said I did come up to the door. I knocked on the door. I even called and spoke with the girl inside. She told me to wait in my car. You would bring it out to my car. So I followed her back up to the door got my order she said have a nice day No, I’m sorry for making you wait. Almost 40 minutes. No, is there anything we can do for making you waste your time and your gas nothing…. I’ve been in customer service 40+ years. You guys have really gotta do better because that’s terrible customer service that’s terrible business. No wonder nobody wants to go out and eat anymore. Customer service beyond stinks these days because nobody cares. Thank you so much for making me waste my time in my gas today. I will say a prayer for you all.
