Health and Sanitation Complaint – Sonic Drive-In (April 2, approx. 6:15 p.m.)
On April 2 at approximately 6:15 p.m., I visited the Sonic Drive-In and ordered a number 3 cheeseburger combo with tater tots and onion rings. Upon returning home, I discovered items were missing and returned to the location to request either a reheated or fresh order.
While observing the food preparation process, I witnessed one employee (wearing gloves) drop a sandwich component directly onto the floor. He then picked it up and continued preparing food, including my sandwich, without changing gloves. This is a direct violation of basic food safety practices and potentially Florida Administrative Code 61C-1.004(1)(a), which requires food employees to maintain proper hygiene and avoid cross-contamination.
The manager, who was preoccupied with preparing side items, was not facing the sandwich station and could not have seen what happened. When I brought the issue to his attention and requested a refund, he became defensive and insisted that the employee changed gloves, though he had no line of sight to confirm this. I asked that the employee be retrained on proper food handling, but the request was met with hostility.
This incident raises serious concerns about the establishment’s commitment to food safety and proper employee training. Handling food that has touched the floor and continuing to prepare orders with the same gloves poses a risk of contamination and violates FDA Food Code guidelines incorporated into Florida state law.
I have reached out to the health department to ensure that this incident be formally investigated. If you...
Read moreHadn't eaten at Sonic before but driving from the Everglades to Orlando at night this way the only place open that had milk shakes - decided to try it. My boyfriend got really excited to try those ordering machines that he pressed "order" before I was ready and we had to make two separate orders not realizing that a member of staff would have to walk back and forth to and from our car with our orders, money, etc. - that's on us and we sincerely apologize for this oversight on our part, it was not intentional. This being said, the man taking our orders was very rude and spoke as if we were some nuisance he had to bear when we asked reasonable questions about the menu - after all, how could you get new clients if you expect people to already know how you work, what you offer and so on. Not only that but he had got my order wrong and gave me very spicy chicken bites (instead of the honey BBQ I had ordered) which I completely could not eat and had to hold in my lap for the rest of the journey not really sure what to do with them... I am assuming he got the order wrong because it's either that or Sonic don't know what honey BBQ is - either way, won't be eating there again. Oh and btw, the milkshake machine didn't...
Read moreSo, i ordered a large popcorn chicken and got a medium... ordered a large peanut butter shake that tasted like pure vanilla... when i got to the window after ordering the girl asked if my order was a completely different order i said no love mines simple, large popcorn chicken and pb shake.. took a few minutes then she came back and said here you go. I was traveling and not from that particular area so didnt check the order right away nor taste the shake until ive got back on a road. Not worth going back but extremely disappointing that a super simple order managed to be wrong even after repeating it and waiting quite a while for it. I don't mind the waiting really, i don't expect magical fairies to snap fingers and have the order ready in an instant, i am upset with the incorrect order though. Was looking forward to my pb shake. :( the girl was nice though, and she didnt take my order a guy did. So i dont really know who's to blame for the mix-up but clearly communication isn't a top priority at...
