I love Steak 'n Shake especially its milk shake. I am so disappointed with their service, however. As far as I visited a couple of Steak 'n Shakes in South Florida as well as the one in Vero Beach the service outside the restaurant service was very poor and workers are inconsiderate. 2 days in a week I ordered a shake in Vero. Once at the cashier a manager of that facility helped me and said that I'd get my shake in a few minutes. I waited 20 minutes and they simply forgot about me while I was clearly standing there. I also saw the workers chatting, laughing and walking back and forth the kitchen. This also happened in the other facilities. The 2nd time, a few days later, I drove thru. I thought, it just won't happen again. After 30 minutes waiting in line of the drive thru, like it was the busiest place on earth (it really wasn't), it finally was my turn to receive my order, a classic shake. When you order shakes at the drive thru they spray the whipped creme on top of it when they hand you the shake by the window. I received mine and because the creme was intact I thought at least the shake looks like it's supposed to look and drove off as I was glad to get out of the drive thru. But, after a couple of minutes the whipped creme kind of collapsed and floated in a like strawberry flavored cup of milk, it was terrible.. It probably had been just standing there for so long. Also, the cashier could not keep track of the orders and didn't know what the drive thru customers had ordered. Much later I realized that I could have returned the shake and ask for a good shake that Steak 'n Shake stands for. I couldn't because a lack of time. I was very upset and disappointed. Are they going to do something about this? I mean... I love the shake the way Steak 'n Shake...
Read moreOur first experience with Steak N Shake. We tried to be patient and respectful but overall this fast food dinner stop after a sunburned beach day was disappointing in every way.
A young boys soccer team stopped in just before us and I'm sure was the main cause of much of our disappointment. The food portion of our order took at least 30 minutes to receive. I did ask once to make sure they had our order, but it is hard to get anyone's attention since they don't have someone working up front. The food arrived but the shakes took another 15 minutes or so, and we were done eating by then.
Other concerns:
Ketchup was out and there is no one readily available to ask for help.
Kids meal came with two relatively small chicken fingers. Definitely for smaller kids.
Shakes appear to all be just straight vanilla with a small amount of oreo or candy or whatever on top. An oreo shake is NOT an oreo mix and will just be a vanilla shake basically. This was definitely disappointing.
Again, not having anyone available to readily field questions caused grief with us and several other patrons we witnessed. It leaves the responsibility on the kitchen workers who are busy cooking and talking to the drive thru. Maybe they're understaffed?
Overall the condition of the facility and cleanliness could use TLC.
I'm sure the time of our visit was stressful on all the employees there (with a large influx of people at a similar time) and thank you to them for working through it best they could. Still, we'll be avoiding steak and shake...
Read moreShort story: Rude employees, takes forever, and awful food.
Long story: I took my daughter in to use the restroom. An employee shook her stall door and then mine to find they were locked. Then she knocked on both, and I said, "Someone's in here." When we came out, I had to say excuse me 3 times for her to stop leaning on the sink as she kept playing on her phone so we could wash our hands. She rolled her eyes and went into the stall. We waited 15 minutes in the drive-thru after we ordered to get our food and about 12 minutes at the window. We were given 4 of our 5 drinks first, and one of the shakes was wrong. My husband attempted to get her attention for 4 minutes and finally set the shake in the window. She looked at him hateful and asked what he needed. When he tried to respond, she put her finger up for him to wait. She came back 2 minutes later and asked what he needed. Finally, she gave him the right shake. Then, we waited 3 more minutes for her to ask, "Anything else?" And he asked for our food. She grabbed a bag that had been sitting on the counter since we pulled up to the window and handed it to him. He asked for our other drink, and she said we didn't have one. He showed the receipt and she gave it to us. Our burgers were burnt yet cold. Shales only had toppings on top and not blended through them. The fries were cold and soggy. ...
