Update 6/24: it’s “avocado purée “ not guacamole. Nice.
Man I really wanted to like this place. I’ve now gone three times and each time has been 5/10 encounter.
First, every time I’m in this location it looks like a rush just came through; dirty tables, garbage on the floor, seats everywhere…definitely not inviting which is why I take it to go every time.
I lived in San Diego for 5 years, so when I saw a place I could get my SoCal food fix I got excited! But each item I’ve gotten hasn’t been exactly what I was expecting. California burrito uses the wrong (and kinda gross when it’s not melted) cheese, nachos come with raw jalapeños (pickled is traditional), carne and pollo asada is dry and tough, a single $4 shrimp taco comes with only 3 shrimp, and they keep giving me dried-out limes (if you’re a SD native you know limes are essential to enjoying a Mexican meal).
I told so many people how excited I was to find a place with food from my old hometown, but after this last experience I’m just not excited to share this with...
Read moreFirst time there. Menu was not very legible. Menu/staff not easy to understand for English-only speaking customers. My husband ordered 3 different Tacos. Two had nothing on them except the lil bit of meat. Third one was the famous one, but still small. Food did not come with salsa, and did not come with consome. He left hungry. Prices are not cheap. I tried the vanilla ice cream. It was just okay, but weird and I could not finish it...too weird. Okay, the good things are the very friendly staff, nice clean and bright little place, parking, and they have real Coke from Mexico with cane sugar. Three millennials came in to have a working dinner next to us and they raved about the Ramen with beef broth. This restaurant used to be a food truck and just recently took over the space that had been 4 different things in 2 years on Memorial (east side, corner), between Rocky Point and Longbar. I will try it again now that I am more familiar with the concept. Oh, and there are 3 different prices on their print and online menus. (?) I hope this time is the charm at this location, for this very hard working family restaurant! They do work with grubhub and other food...
