My husband and I chose to eat here based on the wonderful customer reviews I read online. Sadly, I was very disappointed. We walked in, and the older lady, who appeared to be the owner's wife, just stared at us as if they weren't open or if we were bothering her. I smiled at her and asked if we could have a booth. She looked behind her at the two booths and said, "No, she didn't have any available."I looked at the empty booth and then asked how long the wait would be for a booth (the restaurant was nearly empty). The lady said, "I guess I can clean it off for you" (there was only one cup left on the table). While driving to the restaurant, I glanced over the menu and photos online. I had decided to order one of three things. Unfortunately, two of these items, 'The Sheriff of Nottingham' & the 'Cheese Platter', are no longer available anymore. The other dish I wanted, the roast beef, is only available on alternate weekends. It took well over 30 minutes to receive our two entrées (we ordered a sandwich and a chicken pot pie). Our waitress told us our orders were coming right up, 31 minutes after we ordered. It came 10 minutes later than that. Why say anything unless our food is actually coming right up? And while our waitress was nice, in all the wait time we had, she never came back to our table once; she didn't even bring us our food—a man did. After we got our food, my husband had to ask for a refill on his water after waiting over 30 minutes for food. I understand the food is supposedly made to order, but that does not excuse you from never coming back to our table to check on us or provide refills, especially when there were only three other tables with customers in the entire restaurant. The worst part for me was the smell and uncleanliness of the ladies' restroom. We visited around 5:25pm on Tuesday,...
Read moreBlimey!! The Friar Tuck has it going on. This is authentic British food that goes well beyond Shepard's Pie. It is a fun British atmosphere and the proprietor is charming, generous, gracious and truly cared about our experience. In all my trips across the pond, I have never had food this good and, in fact, would complain about the state of British cuisine. I recommend all Brits to try The Friar Tuck and bring home some of that Nottingham charm to the restaurants there. For us Americans, The Friar Tuck is the only instance we might regret the revolution but hey, now we have the food anyway and just a few miles from Disney!!! Take a glance at the menu on Yelp. Everything we tried was delicious. We had sausages in pastry rolls, sundried tomato and brie pillows with berry sauce, meat pie (mmmm), crumpets (not at all an English muffin I learned), scotch eggs (sage and onion sausage wrapped around a hard-boiled egg), baked bean bag (heinz baked beans in a pastry bag), tuna melt on Jackson's white bread and more. We could not get enough. The kids were happy with their meals as well. I had Emily's Tour of England myself (could easily have served two) which provided me with extra to take home. There are fun British signs and chotchkies throughout the restaurant. Displays on one side provide a British mini-mart with candies, chocolates, take-home crumpets and other delicacies. We were here as refugees from Hurricane Irma and we were blown away by this experience. I want to emphasize how wonderful was the caring service and extra touches. I felt like we were in a British Bed and Breakfast. Loved it! We will return every time we come to Disney or are in the Orlando area. I highly recommend The Friar Tuck as one of my...
Read moreI was looking for a ‘Brit’ place to eat (I’m a Brit) & saw Friar Tucks in Clermont. Bit of a drive, but it’s Sunday & we were up for it. Huge disappointment. Today is St Patrick’s day..was not the reason we chose this place, after all, they’re not Irish. People sitting close to us said ‘it’s never this busy’. We had a 25min wait. Again, not an issue. I went up to the bar to get a drink while we waited. Not possible. Your beverages are tied to your wait-person. As yet we didn’t have one & it would be a while because they were short staffed (I think they were caught off guard by St P day). Food took a while..but as it states in their blurb, they are not a fast food place. I chose the roast of the day (the only roast & only on Sundays). Completely inedible. Very thinly cut, cold & dry. The Mash had a mouldy taste to it, the Yorkshire pudding, roast potatoes..in fact everything was utterly flavourless. Absolutely no seasoning at all. The veggies were canned. As a Brit I know we don’t put a lot of pepper..but this food had zero of any seasoning. The reason for two stars & not one..my partner had the chicken pot pie & it was good! I tasted the last pc, worth it. Chips were soggy & cold. I’m not sure how you get a roast so wrong. It’s a roast, season, stick it in the oven & slice thickly. We were hoping this would be a good place we could come back to..I’m afraid not. We did order at the beginning of the meal 2 x pastie & 2 x steak & mushroom pies to go. Strangest looking pasties. Elongated with very little filling & utterly tasteless. My labs loved it..an expensive puppy dinner😂. The pies will be given to them tomorrow. I will say the person serving us was polite & patient. There for what we needed but...
