I want to like this restaurant, but the problem is that I have never been able to visit in person, so when I eat from here, it is via Uber Eats. The issue is that this place is a cafeteria style restaurant, so all the food is prepared in advance and just sitting in warmers until someone buys it. The food not made to order. So, if you are ordering to go/delivery, you do not know long the food has been sitting there before it gets to you. If the food has been sitting for a long time, it will be very dry by the time it arrives to you. I've never found any of the food to be amazing here, but most of it isn't terrible. The only thing I would strongly recommend AGAINST is their sweet and sour chicken. It is not breaded or fried, and it is bland, tough, and dry. Chewy, overpriced cardboard would best describe the sweet and sour chicken from this restaurant. I do like the pork belly and sweet chili chicken when they have not been sitting for too long, (otherwise, they also have the potential to be dry). This restaurant will occasionally forget plasticware or condiments, but overall, they do a decent job with remembering consistently. One thing I appreciate is that they wrap anything that might have the potential to leak (drinks, mayo ketchup, beans), with plastic wrap so that leaking does not happen. Great attention to detail. I love Santiago’s and I’ve been a local to Davenport/clermont for a long time! The food is always freshly made, and they give good portions as well. You can’t go wrong with Latin food, and Santiago’s never lacks in flavor of all the traditional foods I grew up eating. However I’m taking off one star because I purchased food inside the restaurant today and I noticed that when you cash out using Apple Pay they automatically add a tip and the cashier intentionally swipes past the option to adjust your tip or decline entirely, which is OUR choice not there’s.. I canceled out at the register in hopes to get back to the tip screen and I saw they added a 18% tip without my consent, granted my total wasn’t much.. and the tip didn’t increase it entirely. So I wasn’t going to fight it. However it’s WRONG. And they do it so casually! SO once again FYI when you come in store to purchase your food they are intentionally and automatically adding a tip, like I said I watched the cashier twice and she sped past the tip screen not even giving me a chance to decide if i want to tip or not. Read moreI don't write a lot of reviews, but I had to for this restaurant. I had actually placed an order through DoorDash, but one item was out of stock and automatically refunded. I wanted to replace the item and immediately called to see if that was possible. The gentleman on the phone (I wish I knew his name) was kind enough to let me order directly over the phone since DoorDash had stopped accepting orders (they were about to close). I told him I was ordering all the way from Winter Garden and that I do that because I love the food so much! He was so kind and patient with me, and went out of his way to take care of my order. When the food arrived, they had thrown in a complimentary mofongo (my FAVORITE!).
