This was the first time I visited this Place-The Melting Pot. I absolutely loved the ambience of this restaurant and the surrounding fountain area! The hostesses were friendly and professional. We asked for outside seating. Patio area looked exactly like what we were in the mood for. We arrived at 5pm on a Saturday evening. Plenty of time for 2-3 cocktails during their Happy hour. The server(Slater) although pleasant seemed new and we literally waited 35 minutes for our first drink order! They were NOT full or overly busy at this time. In order to get our drinks, we actually had to ask several other servers that passed by our table to request our server to retirn with our drinks. After receiving our drinks, we immediately placed another round of drinks because by this time there was only about 10 minutes left of happy hour and we expected to have a few leasurely drinks BEFORE ordering dinner. However, this had already become an uncomfortable situation! The drinks were actually made nicely! Our party decided to order some specialty drinks not part of the Happy hour and to skip dinner here as the service was Way too slow and we were agitated with trying to enjoy the night out and the pleasant surrounding atmosphere. When the bill finally came LITERALLY 3 hours after we walked into this place, they had upcharged us for removing a liqueur from a couple of drinks! (Some of my party does not like the extra sweetness from some liqueurs). There was NO DISCOUNTS OR APOLOGIES for how bad the service was or how long it took for us to receive our drinks!! Then when I asked for the Manager...Holly...to voice our 1st time experience, she seemed annoyed and unprofessional. One of the couples in our party, had a technical problem with their credit card processing and had to speak to the company and Holly kept standing there hovering while they were figuring out to pay cash or wait on the company's system to go online again. This caused undue stress and embarrassment! When the situation was resolved by cash payment, i waited until the party left and asked to speak to Holly privately. I informed her of our experiences with waiting over 30 minutes for our first drink orders and the fact that it was our first time here and I included the positive things in this review. Then I suggested that she consider how she handled the situation with the couple that had an issue with their credit card company and that her negative hovering attitude caused undue stress and embarrassment as though there was an inability to pay when the issue was with the online system. She remained rude, unfriendly, and NEVER APOLOGIZED!! Unbelievablely disappointing for a restaurant with...
Read moreWe went to the Melting Pot this evening due to the Kid entree for free promotion. Even with our child entree being free, after tip, our bill was $206. There was also an issue with our bill and although our waiter was very kind about it, when we spoke with a manager he was very combative. Both of the managers on the floor this evening were combative. The first manager gave us a hard time because I turned down the heat on our burner. Our cheese was burning to the pot and I attempted to turn down the burner because none of the workers or managers that walked by did so. If I am going to pay a premium for food, I would rather it not burn. Anyway, then we got our main entree and honestly, the portions for the price has become disappointing. The entree price is about $40-55 and you get 12 small, thinly sliced pieces of assorted meat. If I had bought that meat at the butcher down the road, I would have paid probably about $20-30 maximum for the amount of meat my family received. Not $40+ per person.
This brings me to the manager that came to the table regarding the bill. He came looking for a fight that I didn’t give him. I was asking, politely, about the bill because I couldn’t understand why the KIDS entree of 9 small pieces of meat was $18!? Yes, they did comp that because of the deal that they had but, my 8 year old had $18 worth of meat? Yeah, no. I also Google searched the kids menu and was on the meltingpot.com website and that manager told me that I was wrong and that Melting Pot prices have never been what I had. I was on MELTING POT’s website. The kids menu on the website says $9.95 for a kids entree and an extra $10 to add cheese and chocolate. He defended the bill by saying that I have to understand that Melting Pot is a franchise restaurant and prices aren’t always the same. I get that but, basically after tax, $20 for a kids meal. No thanks. He said that the full kids experience is $36!
All of that said, I paid the bill in full because, what else could I do. The management wasn’t going to accommodate anything and basically shut me down. Then, when I paid, the manager hovered over me and watched me tip. It wasn’t and isn’t my waiters fault that management isn’t kind. I still tipped him as I should have.
I would have liked to see a more understanding management situation and I’m disappointed that the portions are getting smaller but the prices aren’t.
We have been long time customers at this Melting Pot and I’m not sure if, after this evening we will be back.
Currently looking on Amazon for fondue pots. We will just stay home from now on. It’s not worth the price you pay...
Read moreI enjoyed the evening with my wife at this restaurant. I made reservation and did not wait a second, we were walked promptly to our booth for two in a quiet little corner secluded from most of the patrons background chatty noise. Drinks scotch on the rock for me and wine for my wife started us off nicely. We did the four course menu which begun with the melted 4 cheese perfectly seasoned the server was pleasant and demonstrated her skills while we chatted about the menu. The breads, bits of vegetables and apple was a good beginner followed by a house salad which I though was excellent. Main Course was Shrimp, Tuna and Duck. The soup base was delicious, I wish I had a small bowl with a spoon to drink some. We boiled our meats, potatoes, cauliflower and broccoli and it was Ok. I get the idea of trying someplace new, but here is the reality, your food is boiled, all the flavors are now in the stock, your sesame seeds are all gone in the bottom of the stock, your seasoning is in the stock. In other words you boil your food in a soup and you don't get to drink the soup. Though the portion of shrimps, duck and tuna were good the flavors were gone so the taste was barely mediocre. An assortment of dips such as teriyaki, curry, blue cheese and a few more were available to conjure up some artificial exotic taste. For me, the value was not there. Finally we had our desert melted chocolate with assorted sweets to dip and eat which we enjoyed the bite size portions. My wife and I had a memorable and enjoyable dinner for our anniversary and nothing was going to ruin our evening. The price! $210. I ordered a Scotch Glenmorenie 10 YO on the rock, the price was $14 and an additional $7 for on the rock. Listen! I would spend $1000 for a special evening with my wife but when a business charge $21 for a drink when a 750 ml bottle cost $32 that is the extremity of ridiculous overpricing. Here is my take away from the melting pot. The service is excellent, the starter is very good, the salad is great, the main course not so good and the desert was sweet as it should be and price was much higher than the value. This is just my honest opinion, don't let anyone tell you what taste you should like or...
