We very last minute decided to go to Toastique today. It’s been right down the street from us for over a year, my wife is allergic to gluten, and we needed some breakfast. I ordered a drip coffee, a Toastique breakfast sandwich, and my wife got a smoothie. All was fine; good atmosphere, decent welcome from the staff, and good music. We were excited to be there and enjoy some healthy food options. Once my food was ready I went to the walk up area to claim my order and went to sit back down. My sandwich was very tasty, the coffee was alright, and my wife was enjoying her smoothie. I was looking around the restaurant and found a large cockroach right on the floor next to me, upside down, and squirming. Instantly I lost my appetite and instantly felt ill. We don’t complain, we’ve both worked in restaurants, we understand bugs exist. But you need to keep your place clean because that was disgusting. I tried to forget about it and tried to enjoy my meal and coffee but just wasn’t able to kick the sick feeling in my stomach. My wife was unable to finish her smoothie. I, who usually licks my plate clean, was not able to finish half my coffee or the remainder of my meal. My wife informed the staff of the cockroach and they just went to clean it up. They said thank you for letting us know and cleaned it up. No apology. Again I tried to finish my meal but couldn’t. They did end up refunding me our meal when I went to ask but was also given a lot of rude facial expressions, and still a lack of an apology. I was told I could go walk the kitchen to see how clean it is which I declined as I’m not a health inspector and honestly it wouldn’t matter because the kitchen and the entire restaurant is all one piece, they are not separate. Not only did I leave feeling ill but also left...

Generally good to great food with awful service and speed at a slightly over–priced cost.
We have been here twice now and have waited a combined 1 hour length for a total of 2 Acai Bowls, 1 Toast and 2 Lattes. On our second visit, it took 30 minutes to get 2 drinks and they had an employee working the espresso machine the entire time. In that total amount of time, they had only made 2 drinks ahead of ours.
The staff, for the most part, are not knowledgeable about the menu or ingredients in the food. Besides one employee, everyone we encountered were not friendly or helpful. They didn’t print out one of our food orders on the first visit and so we sat, not knowing it wasn’t getting made.
The Avacado Smash toast is great and highly recommended. It might be some of the best Avacado toast we’ve had. When ordered, it did get prepared and out to us quickly compared to our other items.
The restaurant has a burnt toast/gas smell inside which is unpleasant. The inside of the restaurant is nice so it is unfortunate that it is better to sit outside to avoid this smell.
Overall, I would recommend the food here but hope the staff improve on efficiency and cleanliness. They also seemed understaffed which could help with the speed. I would recommend not having mobile ordering until some of these issues are resolved. It seems from other reviews, these issues have been ongoing...
