Update Jan 2023.
We have not been back for a good long while, what with Rockfish restaurant and the COVID mess. Rockfish in highland Village has closed, and we did not find fish at the grocery. Hence our decision to give Fish City Grill another shot.
We arrived at about 8:15 on a Tuesday to a nearly deserted restaurant. We were promptly seated and our drinks order taken.
Drinks and food came out in good order and the meal was as ordered and done very nicely with generous portions of specially-ordered grilled trout instead of blackened.
All in all a good experience and I'd now hope that the empty restaurant was merely a sign of the day of the week and being early in the year rather than a symptom of a struggling venue.
Given this experience, we may be back soon.
_-----------++-------- Previous review:
Over many years, we have lived in the area for about 20 years and I don't recall if Fish City Grill predates us or not, we come here a few times a year. It's one if our go-to places for fish that's not catfish.
The food is always at an expected standard with some southern touches (gumbo, etc.) and Gulf seafood items such as crawfish and so forth.
What is much more irregular is levels of service. On our previous visit, my wife asked for her fish to be grilled. Our young, inexperienced and oft-errant server inquired whether she wanted it well done, medium or rare!
This time round, service was just slow for no discernible reason. While sitting at the bar, waiting for our table, two servers noticed us and promised to take our orders "real soon" - we arrived at our table still unserved. Then a similar wait of about 10 minutes before we got a server and yet another two waiting periods for a draft beer and a soda.
After that the restaurant was mostly emptying out, so our food arrived in reasonable order, but the knife that one of the bussers dropped beside an adjacent table remained there for the duration of our meal.
Having typed all of this, I think I realize why we don't eat...
Read moreWe have eaten at Fish city Grill in Flower Mound ever since it opened years ago. The food has always been excellent and the service has been very good. Unfortunately, the last two times we have been there we have had John for our server (including today July 22, 2020). Both of these times we have received subpar service. Today, after ordering and receiving our drinks, he went and sat down at a table to talk with another server. He did not come back to take our order, and after 10 minutes of trying to get his attention, we had to wave to the Cook who then prodded John to get up and go to our table. By the way, we were the only customers in the restaurant at the time. We had to repeat our order to him three times. My son ordered a bowl of crab bisque and he brought a cup of crab bisque. I had ordered a cup of gumbo and had to ask the other server if we could have some crackers and Tabasco sauce. John never came back to see if we needed anything else, but laid the bill on the table without a word. Overall he just seems very uninterested in being there. If this were the first time that we had had him I would have assumed that he was just having a bad day, but the exact same situation happened the last time we were there and had him as a server. We will be back to Fish city because we love their food, but I hope we get different...
Read morenever a bad experience & good is amazing...ALWAYS! I visited on November 4th with my parents and my five year old, who was unfortunately dealing with awful coughing fits from allergies and bronchitis. We almost cancelled my birthday dinner that evening but my little girl was the one who begged us not to. Upon arrival, the staff was more than accommodating to put us at a table somewhat in a corner so that my daughter is coughing wouldn't bother too many people. Keep in mind if she was contagious I would have never taken her. Phoenix, our waitress, was absolutely amazing! She brought my daughter a bowl of lemons and even offered to bring her some honey to help soothe her cough. Service throughout the entire meal was beyond amazing, and we were giving a card at the end and asked to fill out a short survey. We did so and a week later we received a $5 off coupon with a personal note from Phoenix telling us that she hoped my daughter was feeling better. The fact that she took the time to hand write a personal note and made it even more personal because she mentioned my daughter, will guarantee that we return to this location! And by the way, their roasted jalapeno soup, gumbo and fish tacos were out of this world! Fish City Grill... we hope y'all see this and Phoenix is rewarded for her AMAZING service!!! Many...
