I have been dying to try A’ha Bistro in Flowood since they purchased the building from Saigon Restaurant. I had high hopes because they had a 4.9 star rating and probably shouldn’t have-- Maybe their other dishes or breakfast items rated them a 4.9 but this was not a 4.9 experience.
Anyhow, the service was a 3ish – I had to ask for my Pho trimmings and didn’t know we had to pay up front until we saw other patrons walk up front. They have Pepsi fountain products and they do have bottled Coke products along with other bottled products (because they are also a bakery) in case you need to know these things.
We ordered:
Spring Rolls – They had full-size shrimp which is a positive (usually restaurants cut them in half) and it had some sort of green leaf lettuce and maybe a hint of arugula or something. That’s it. No noodle or any other herbs.
Banh Mi – The meat filling was tasty, the jalapeno did not look fresh and the bread was soft—it was po-boy bread with banh mi fillings. Banh Mi fillings should be on crusty bread. So, if you like your Banh Mi toasted—you will need to request it be made that way (if they do it, I do not know). Toasted is the only way to go when eating a Banh Mi, ijs…
Pho – (Short Rib, Steak, and Meatball) – This cost $27 and did not live up to its traditional presentation and flavors. The short rib was decent—I was expecting the beef shank I’ve seen on social media but maybe I ordered the wrong thing. The steak was too well done—I wanted it still cooking in the broth when they bring it to me – probably need to request that next time (if possible). The meatball was literally one (1) meatball cut into fours for $5.00!! The broth was not flavorful, I had to lay it on with the hoisin sauce and sriricha. They did not bring me the side of bean sprouts, basil, cilantro, lime, fresh jalapenos or anything—every place is different as to what they provide as trimmings but I didn’t receive them at all—had to ask for it and when she brought it—she only brought cilantro and bean sprouts. I then had to ask for limes…
I don’t think I...

Read moreYou have to try this place!!! All of it was amazing and on the way out the owner's son gave us some cronuts (crossaint donuts!) for free, such good people!! The new owners took over from their friends that owned Saigon. Their son told us about the transition from the pho Saigon served (a tradition Southern Vietnamese pho with a sweeter broth made with cinnamon and star anise) to A'HAs recipe of traditional Cambodian pho lightly sweetened with cane sugar. I got the chicken pho and my husband got the chicken fried rice. Super delicious!!! 10/10!!!! The pho is some of the best I've ever had and the A'HA seafood sauce served on the fried rice is AMAZING (like a spicier yum-yum since). Awesome boba tea as well! Open 7 days a week and they serve...
