I have never, ever in my whole life been more embarrassed or upset than I was when I went to Primos this morning. The line was long and my one year old special needs son had been spitting up pretty heavily, so I went to find us a seat so we could get him settled while my husband ordered. One of the employees approached me as I was looking for a table and went OFF on me for trying to find a table before our ordering was complete. I explained that my son is special needs and had been sick this morning so we needed to sit. He told me I could “sit on the bench”, which is right at the front door in the middle of the long line. It was freezing cold at the entrance where the bench was and my son has temperature regulation issues due to coding and dying for 40 minutes last summer. He refused to let me find a seat no matter what I said. I ended up in tears in the line because I felt helpless and so disrespected.
After this happened, he approached two tables that had already claimed a seat BEFORE they ordered and told them they shouldn’t do that. BUT he did not make them get up. One of those table’s family members (the one doing the ordering) was only one spot in front of us in line. So she was able to grab a seat and stay there but I was not.
Then, I overheard this same employee complaining about me to another employee right beside me. The second employee kept looking at us and then approached us in the line (she walked up from the back of the restaurant) to tell us that she had a table waiting for us at the front. The table they sat us at was a booth that we could not fit my son’s stroller into it, and there was no room to put him in the aisle and still allow people to come through. So we had to put my special needs child all the way to the side. (See photo- this was WITHOUT someone sitting in the chair- when someone was sitting in it (which was most of our meal) his seat almost touched our son’s stroller and nobody could walk through.) It was clearly not thought out.
My husband’s family has been going to Primos every single Saturday morning without fail for years. Normally I would have left, but I am also a type 1 diabetic and my blood sugar was low so I knew I wouldn’t have time to find somewhere else to eat. I am a nurse and my father has been in the restaurant business my entire life, so I know a few things about how to treat customers. This experience was humiliating, disrespectful, and totally wrong. No customer should ever be brought to tears by the way they are spoken to in a restaurant. No human should be treated...
Read moreWe recently visited Primos for brunch and had mixed feelings about the experience. The ordering process requires customers to walk up to a counter, which can become inefficient when lines are long. Fortunately, the restaurant was not busy during our visit.
For our meal, we ordered pancakes, eggs, sausage, an egg and cheese wrap with cheese grits, two sodas, and coffee. While some items were well-prepared, others fell short. The eggs and egg wrap were cooked to order and tasted great, but the pancakes lacked the homemade quality and seemed more like a premade variety. Additionally, the syrup and butter were prepackaged, which would have been more enjoyable if served warm and fresh. The sausage was dry and lacked the expected savory depth—using locally sourced or homemade sausage, readily available in Mississippi, could greatly enhance the dish.
Service at Primos is largely self-serve, including refilling drinks. While this setup may streamline operations, it limits opportunities for personalized service, which could impact tipping potential. On a positive note, the restaurant was clean and well-maintained, and staff members promptly cleared empty dishes.
This was our first visit, and unless improvements are made, it may be our last. While the restaurant shows promise, adjustments in food quality and service could significantly elevate the...
Read moreThe portion size is average to say the least. The lunch Blue Plates, in my opinion, should be .50 cents to $1 cheaper and I feel like that would compensate for the small food portions. The Seafood gumbo is really good, just not great especially with salad sized shrimp. However, I absolutely love a decent gumbo, and if you order, and spring for a bowl, not a cup, it's pretty satisfying with just a little salt in my opinion👌
The downfall was when my brother in law treated me for a birthday lunch last August, 2022, and I ordered the meatloaf and the portion size was absolutely pathetic, it looked like a kids sized portion. I literally ate the entire piece of meatloaf in less than 3 bites. I had to get a snack afterwards at work to compensate. The sides were served very sparingly and were eaten in 2 bites each. To me, the only thing worth $14 was the free refills on iced tea.
UPDATE: Lately, Primo's has really shined through, I can't say enough! I have been completely satisfied with my meals and never happier with their gumbo. They have teuly made an iconic name for themselves in the Central Mississippi area for sure. 2...
