I grew up eating Leo's cheesesteaks at Academy Park High School; even my sister's picture with the baseball team was on the wall inside the establishment (I'm not sure if the pictures are still up there due to the remodeling of the store after the officer crashed into the building). My order has not always been correct when ordering from this establishment, but I always let it be. I never called and complained and just ate the sandwich, even though I would have things missing that I paid for. On Monday, 8/5/2024, my boyfriend, who is from the Bronx and works in Philadelphia as a police officer after his long day at work, I asked him if he could pick us up two large cheesesteaks and fries from LEOS since he had never tried their cheesesteaks before, and I've always told him how I grew up eating at Leo's. He spent around $60 once he got home, almost an hour away. We didn't open our sandwiches until later, and at that time, the establishment was closed when we opened the sandwiches. Both sandwiches had MUSTARD and no MUSHROOMS when the order was black pepper, onions, mayo, ketchup, sweet peppers, and mushrooms. very disappointed we could not eat the sandwiches because WHO eats MUSTARD 🤢🤮 on a cheesesteak not US so we trashed the sandwiches and took pictures the next day I called the establishment asking to speak with the manager who they said was not available I told the employee on the phone about the order being wrong and can they remake the sandwich and his response was you need to bring the sandwiches back which I told him we live an hour away and that I disposed of the sandwiches and he said well that is the policy but I explained to him that had drove an hour away and spent a lot of money on this food but I did take PICTURES he told me to call back when the manager is here I asked him if he could take my name and number down and have the owner call me before I make the drive all the way back down and not be able to get my food remade The moral of the story is that it's been 2 days and I still have not received a call from the establishment, and when I tried to call, it said my number is blocked. This is definitely the last time I will be spending my money there; it stinks. My man didn't even get to try...
Read moreI ordered two large cheese steaks, one for me and one for my father. I drove to pick the order up and was told to leave for not wearing a mask. I have severe respiratory issues and have since I was a baby. I was told by my doctor I MUST NOT prevent myself from exposure to the germs out there (yes EVEN the virus). He told me if I were to, it would weaken my immune system and create a compromised immune condition that would put me at risk for serious illness from ANY respiratory illness and be a potential death sentence.
Part of keeping my immune system healthy IS exposure to germs. It's a risk I don't want to take, but unfortunately have to. He has instructed me it's imperative my immune system experience and fight germs to stay as healthy as possible. Just like a muscle that gets weak if you don't exercise it, you're immune system ALSO weakens if it doesn't have exercise (germs to fight).
I felt humiliated being asked to leave even after explaining to them I cannot wear a mask for health reasons. Many other shops understand my situation, realize there's nothing I can do about it, and do NOT refuse service to me based on my medical conditions. I grew up just 6 blocks away from Leo's and was a life long customer. I'm 31 and I still have memories of being 6 and eating from Leo's. After this, I'll never shop there again.
They could have asked me to wait outside and bring my order to the door, I would have been fine with that. I'm very understanding that others don't want to be exposed to me potentially being infected. Instead, they scolded me and had me leave.I'll be sharing this experience with everyone I know.
Once again, I can't help my medical conditions AND I'm only listening to my doctor's advice, and I was refused service and discriminated against due to my medical status. 25+ years of business and Leo's was my "go to" steak shop....
Read moreI visited several weeks ago and wanted to try an authentic Philadelphia Cheesesteak. They did not disappoint. This is the best sandwich I ever had in my life. This place is one of those homey right on the corner mom and pop shops. I walked in and the young girl at the front counter took my order. I was going to get a large but I decided to get a small instead because I didn’t think I was going to be sharing it. My daughter just wanted a bite so she said. When I got it it was huge. I also got a bag of dill chips to go with it. They have a big variety of chips from Philadelphia and other east coast brands. The girl that took my order was very sweet and polite and told me to have a wonderful weekend. I’m sure she probably realized I wasn’t from around there because I felt that I stood out with my white linen dress lol So I ended up eating the sandwich in the car while I was parked in their tiny parking lot in the back of the store. Btw the bread was soft, delicious, and held up very well and surprisingly was not soggy at all even with all the juice from the meat. My daughter was only supposed to take a bite to try it because she wasn’t planning on eating any steak. Well one bite and she couldn’t stop and end up eating the other half of my sandwich lol I will definitely be back when I’m in town. Next time I’ll have to pick up a smoothie or another delicious drink from WaWa to go...
