Unfortunately, I had a very bad experience at Casa Jimenez in Fontana, CA on May 2nd, 2014. I am an African-American male, and I truly feel that I was treated indifferently because of my race.
I entered the restaurant with my girlfriend of Hispanic descent and I was treated very rudely immediately. All of the waiters were male and never acknowledged me or even looked at me the entire time I was in the restaurant – this includes my servers as well. The waiters only addressed my girlfriend and made it a point only to speak in Spanish. This does not offend me to be spoken to in Spanish, as I understand a large majority of it. However, I was never addressed. It were if I was not there. This was particularly disheartening because the same exact waiters were speaking in English to other customers at tables nearby myself.
My girlfriend and I were treated with looks of resentment and anger throughout the entire experience. Not once did any of the waiters or servers return to the table to ask how we were doing, or if everything was okay with our meal. They abruptly came only to pick up dishes from our table without saying one word. Again, they were very interactive with other customers in the restaurant, both in English and in Spanish. We were in the restaurant for at least one hour and a half, but we never received acceptable customer service.
The worse part of the experience was when I went to pay for the food. The gentleman at the register was named CHON, or something very similar, as this is what I read from his name badge. Chon did not address me at the register. He simply wrote out my receipt and slapped it on the countertop. He did not even announce my total to me. He remained silent. So, I read the receipt back to him and asked, “So, my total is $38.99?” Chon responded “Yeah,” and never looked me in the eye during the entire instance. I gave him my card to pay, and he slid my receipt over the counter towards me. He did not thank me.
My girlfriend has been coming to this restaurant for the past 8 years and knows each of the servers personally. She very frequently comes to restaurant with her family and friends and she is very personable with all employees at this location. She says that they all know her and her family and she is always treated very well. She said that she had never been treated so rudely and so coldly by the staff there in all of the years she has gone there.
I understand that being treated with prejudice is something that I may have to deal with at one point in my life or another – as this is the case with everyone. However, I think it should be known how this business operates. I feel it necessary to share my experience with others, as well as make everyone aware that the servers at this establishment can easily be construed as racially biased and insincere. It is a shame to experience this kind of behavior in...
Read moreCame to this place and i must say that i was extremely disappointed. Walked in got seated at a booth...and then the waiting game began. Took minimum 20 minutes some guy came to get our drink order. Then again waited for another 20 mins or more until another man came and took our order, and got chips and salsa finally. I asked him about the drinks we placed and he said they're on their way (barely). It was the first man and he just left the drinks at the edge of the table instead of distributing them like and actual waiter. Both men have no personality in terms of actual serving and making a welcoming environment. At this point I was over it and felt like walking out, but only stayed cause of my family which would be a nice tab for them i would assume they would want to be more attentive and provide better service. Food was delivered to the table, but didnt bring out my mothers and brothers plate till bout 5 mins after, we asked for extra utensils and again the waiting game began...i ended up getting the fish fillet and it was crusty around the edges and skin but it was chewy from the center not fully cooked...fajitas more like grilled veggies with side of meat....the waiter no where to be found or seen. Overall food was not the best but passable....
Read moreWalked in... where are all the waitresses? Was seated by waiters took about 8 min. to bring us some water. Returned 5 min. later to take our order. Btw, the glasses of water appeared to have not been cleaned, a slight film was on them and they felt gross to drink from them. 20 min. later our food arrived. I had ordered a chicken taco and they put parmesan cheese instead of regular cheese ( who does that?). I complained to the waiter and asked him to put some real cheese on my taco. He took my plate, with all of my food on it, returned 10-15 min. later with the same taco and the parmesan had been replaced with real cheese. at this point, my food was cold and my appetite was ruined. I felt that by the time I placed another order, Another 1/2 hr. would have passed before I received the food. I went there with my Son, although he didn't say anything , I could tell he was nonplussed. I usually go to the one in Perris, food and service is great, on my way to San Diego. I think I will never go back to the one in Fontana. Lack of cleanliness and foul odor permeated my olfactories. I can't wait till I head out to San...
