This place is FANTASTIC! Located in the former Pobre Pancho's spot, Taqueria del Barrio is owned and operated by the fine folks that run Los Pepes food truck (I know that there a lot of options in Fort Collins, but Los Pepes is my favorite Mexican food truck in town! 🤗).
My wife and I visited today (6/29/25). The host (and our waiter) was very friendly and made us feel welcomed and right at home. We were seated, given menus and promptly served what I believe were house made tortilla chips (which were crispy and delicious, and not too salty) and what I know was house made salsa, which was incredibly flavorful, with a nice amount heat. It also had the perfect consistency. Not too thin. Not too thick).
My wife and I went with burritos, she the California, and I the Campechana. We both went with the option of having our burritos smothered in both the green and red chile (known as "Christmas style", by the way). The green chile is vegetarian (as are the tortillas) and is amazing! The red chile has the incredibly tasty addition of chipotle peppers for a nice smokiness that really stands out and compliments the other ingriedients. There is also a nice amount of heat in both.*
The burritos were also pretty hefty and I was glad that I'd had a light breakfast. The menu items are reasonably priced and we both definitely felt like we got our money's worth.
If you are familiar with Los Pepes, you should give their brick and mortar restaurant, Taqueria del Barrio, a try. If you aren't familiar with Los Pepes then you should give both a try. Treat yourself to some incredible Mexican food. You deserve it!

Read moreI'll start with the good. I'm so glad a new restaurant opened in this location. They are trying. The waitress was friendly. The menu choices were good. My dinner was delicious, especially for the price. It was a real good value. They have a salsa bar that was pretty good. The homemade flan was really tasty.
The things I didn't like were the chips were pretty bad. They need better chips. The service is pretty slow. It seems like they are still trying to figure out how to run a sit down restaurant. The people with me got quesodillas. They commented they didn't have enough cheese. They brought out 2 of the 3 entrees, then I had to wait a fair bit for mine. They add a 2% fee for credit cards that I didn't see posted. The fountain drinks are $4.50. That is the most expensive I have ever seen. With tax and tip for 3 people, the sodas would have been $6 a piece $18 total. Ouch! We drank water.
I'll try them again because they are close to our house, and I liked the food. My daughter said she wouldn't eat...
Read moreMy husband wanted to try here so we did! I am so glad that we did, too!!!! The food was good and not spicy, but they had hot sauces available if you want it spicy! I love that cause to do not do spicy! Hahahaha I was afraid that it would be dark and dreary in there cause there are only a very few small windows. But we walked in and I was surprised! It is really cute and bright!!!! The girl told us that it is a family owned and operated business. They cannot change the building because it is a historical site. That explains why it has not changed over the years, or been removed! This is a really nice place amd we will...
