This one is a hard review for me to write because I had such high expectations that Chucks just didn’t live up to. The first thing that I wanna point out is that every single employee seemed to be absolutely miserable. Nobody had a smile on their face and they seemed aggravated that they had a job to do. They were all scurrying around the restaurant often times seen almost running into customers who were looking at the many displays of nautical art. We had a party of seven and reservations had been made for a 6:00 dinner. When we arrived they had no table prepared for us so we ended up waiting for our “table” to be set up. By “table” I mean one round table and one square table joined together which made for a quite unusual dining position for all of us. The hostess was rude as she clearly didn’t care whether or not we were seated comfortably. Our waitress was not knowledgeable about the menu whatsoever and she had to be asked multiple times for simple items like ketchup. Now, let’s get to the worst part. The menu had probably eight meals that didn’t have the price, rather market value. The stuffed grouper was listed at market price and had I not asked what the “market” price was, I’d have paid $60 for a piece of fish. Yes I said $60. I have eaten at 10 course fine dining establishments that only serve 12 tables in an entire evening and their fish option wasn’t even $60. The scallops were even $40. I wound up ordering stuffed shrimp. They were $30 and they didn’t live up to the hefty price tag. They weren’t bad but for that price I can find many other restaurants that are far better in every way. My family said the breakfast was excellent earlier in the week at Chucks but my review is based solely on the dinner experience we had. I would never go back based on my first impression. Maybe for breakfast but not for dinner.
Update: we went for breakfast a year after the first dinner review. The breakfast was fantastic. Shown is the breakfast at Tiffany’s omelette. It was filled with scallops, shrimp, and crab meat. It was quite good. A bit expensive at $23 but of course anything with seafood is a bit costly. The sausage gravy was great and a good value. The coconut French toast was excellent also. The waitress that served us made it sound as if hashbrowns were included in the meals and so we agreed to have them served to us and there was a $3 charge for each serving added to our bill. That was unfortunate because I really wanted to change my 3 stars to 4 but the service has just failed both times I’ve come. The coffee was awful too. McDonald’s has better coffee than chucks does. I was immediately disappointed upon the first sip. Overall, breakfast was 1000 times better than the dinner. I would go back for breakfast for sure. But I’d bring...
Read moreI really do not like being negative or spreading bad vibes on a restaurant. I'll will share my experience and you can decide, maybe it was just a bad day. The other evening my Aunt took me to chucks for a late bday dinner at this restaurant I've eyeing every time we drive by in the way to the jetty, I was very excited and she was too. How ever it quickly declined as the evening progressed. We sat outside side and it was very uncomfortable, the fans were lousy( sure a place like this can afford fans that work much better. All this was just ok and nothing to really change the good mood just a few things that could have improved on. As we sat down they gave us 4 fritters( cold and on the stake said.. not fresh by any means) disappointed but hey it happens no bigs deal . We order soda and peel and eat shrimp.. soda had a very funny taste it quite sure what it was,and then the shrimp come out with a tinyemkn and a very small thing of sauce.. although the shrimp were larger devained but very bland and mushy in some parts, sauce very average ( when ppl are sharing the app. I believe having multiple sauce and lemons should be a normal.. not have to struggle to get another Sauce and lemons)but so for the price and very bland and not so fresh shrimp was a very start of being disappointed. For dinner the waitress stated the specials and then told up the ran out and then came back and said sorry she made a mistake they did have them.. scallops they were severely overcooked and drowned in a over overwhelming amount of butter sauce.. green beans no flavor and couldn't enjoy them, baked potato was good but it's a dang potato.. lol.. we also tried the couch chowder . Came out cold, it was full of meat but was sitting to long or pot was not hot.. the grouper fingers came with normal tartar sauce, small little strip of grouper, they were ok nothing with flavor or character.. just between the hight priced food and what we got out of it was sad. . I really hope this was just a bad night and it's actually a good place to be at.. the band really...
Read moreI rarely critique a restaurant; however, as loyal customers of Chuck’s for over 15 years, we feel it necessary in this case. Never have we been as disappointed as we were this evening.
We made a reservation for six people at 6:00 PM and arrived promptly. When we checked in, the young hostess seemed surprised and asked, “You had a reservation?” After some hesitation, we were told, “Oh, we can seat you at the 'Captain’s Table.’”
From the start, the service was underwhelming. Our waiter appeared unhappy to be there, displaying a demeanor that was indifferent at best. The meals themselves were fair at best and overpriced. The salad was mushy, and overall, the food quality has noticeably declined over the past two years. Dessert consisted of coffee and Key Lime Pie, which was decent but nothing remarkable.
While we were chatting after our meal, a man in a black apron pulled up a chair at our table and asked how everything was. My wife mentioned that she was glad the chairs had been replaced and were more comfortable than the old ones. He responded that he had purchased them at a flea market and then, to our surprise, added, “I’m going to have to charge you rent.” Taken aback, my wife asked, “What?” He replied, “You know, we have to turn over the tables.”
At that point, our table had just been cleared, and some of us were still finishing dessert. Given that our bill exceeded $300, we found his comment extremely inappropriate. Rather than making a scene, we politely left. As we exited through the bar area, a tall gentleman employee asked how everything was. We responded, “It was OK until we were thrown out.”
Unfortunately, this experience has left us disappointed, and we have crossed Chuck’s off our list of go-to restaurants. This is certainly not the way to retain...
