Worst experience ever. If you’re looking for an authentic Korean restaurant, this is not the place to be.
Upon arrival, the inside looks like it needs a little renovation, which we didn’t mind. The lady inside was nice. We tried to order sweet and sour chicken, but the lady said that they were all out of sweet and sour dishes even though it was 2pm. We settled for black bean noodles, stir fry squid dish, and kimbap, which the lady was hesitant to accept (she said something along the lines of ‘uhh, let me check’) but decided to accept the order
When the kimbap arrived, it was small cut of cucumber, pickled radish, spinach, and egg with a lot of rice. For an $8 roll, it was outrageous price. The kimchi was too fermented, almost gone bad and the lemon water that was served tasted like dish soap.
Even though the food was poor, we attempted to pay for the kimbap because we ate 3 pieces and tried to cancel the rest of the order. The lady and kitchen staff confronted us asking why we would order 3 other items but cancel at the last minute. They said the food was ready and we said never mind, we will accept the food and pay for all. However, both the lady and kitchen staff repeatedly demanded an explanation to why we want to cancel in the first place. We were hesitant but eventually told the reasons why (kimbap, too fermented kimchi, and dish soap tasting water) which prompted the kitchen staff to tell us to leave.
From this experience, I do not recommend this place to anyone who was looking for a place that could provide an authentic Korean...
Read moreThis is one of those quaint little Korean Restaurants like the ones you find hidden back in the market areas off the beaten path in every little Korean town. Great place for a quick lunch. The food was at the table quickly and it tasted great. The staff is friendly, and they all speak Korean! Okki Dokki is not much to look at, but it is one of those hole-in-the-wall places that people swarm to because the food and the service is just great. I enjoyed the lunch special Beef Bulgogi (Korean Marinated BBQ Beef) with rice and six traditional Korean sides. I also had the 4-piece Yakimamdu (crispy stuffed dumpling) appetizer. I enjoyed every bite and walked away stuffed for only $10.50 - I could have gotten half to go and still would have been satisfied with something to look forward to later. By far, this is the best value in the Fort Walton Beach area for that taste of Korea. Others do more elaborate creations, some offer a much fuller menu, and they will have a better atmosphere, but this place gives you the...
Read moreWe do not live in Florida. I used to travel to Fort Walton Beach for work a few times a year and stay for a month or two at a time.
Though it has been close to ten years since we’ve visited Okki Dokki. My wife and I regularly speak of our visits there. Okki Dokki has become what we compare all other Korean Restaurants in the states.
The food is amazing, prepared fresh and obviously made with love. They are priced surprisingly low for what you are given. It’s hard to really say anything more than that. You’ll just have to try it to understand.
Other than the food the service is what will stick in your mind and bring you back. They make you feel as if your home. As welcoming and attentive as your own grandmother. The portion sizes reflect the level of service also. Do not go unless your hungry.
We miss our visits and hope to return soon.
At the time our youngest son was 2ish. Be prepared to have extra love and attention if you bring...
