I visited Yum Thai on East State Street for lunch this week. I have visited several of the Thai restaurants around town and this one was on the list of very good ones. It's still not my favorite but I did enjoy the food that I had here.
The dish that I normally enjoy the most is the Pad See Ew. I typically enjoy the dish with the bean thread or glass noodles, mainly because they are not made of wheat or rice and I enjoy the texture. The dish usually comes with your choice of meat and various vegetables. The thing that really sets this dish apart is what makes it different at the various Thai restaurants. That is the chef's own thai sauce which can vary from store to store.
The dish at Yum Thai was good and probably is #2 or #3 on my list so far. If you have seen my review for Thai Metta then you know which one my favorite is so far.
I also have discovered the summer rolls at Thai restaurants or Vietnamese restaurants. These are bigger than your normal spring roll and is not deep fried. They are thicker rolls wrapped in rice paper, filled with shrimp or other meat and various vegetables. The summer rolls Yum Thai were pretty standard but the sauce that they serve with them made them stand out somewhat. The entree was also served with a rice soup that was very flavorful and a nice compliment to the summer roll and the entree.
The store is a small one with maybe 8 to 10 tables and minimal decor. The service was great and I would definitely...
Read moreActually the best Thai food I've had since moving up from Atlanta. Everything is made fresh, from scratch and in-house even their sauces are homemade. The Summer Rolls with avocado are flavorful and huge. The Tom Ka Gai soup had just the right amount of spice and frankly a half a bowl could be a whole meal on its own. But I had to be fat and get the Pad Thai which is a staple menu item for any Thai restaurant, and I was not disappointed. The homemade peanut sauce, the spice, and the lime made a perfect combination that will make any fan of Thai food come back for more. But as if that wasn't enough the service is outstanding. The wait staff is quick and friendly, with helpful recommendations to boot, and the chef even came out to chat and check see how I was enjoying my meal. They also have a large assortment of desserts and bubble teas, I love the taro bubble tea. Lastly, all of this is on a price tag that most anyone can afford. So from meek to fire, and savory to sweet I recommend Yum Thai to anyone looking for a bit of the exotic in...
Read moreThis place has been around for a while…across the parking lot from the “rib bar.” I’ve wanted to try it when in town visiting family. I decided to give it a try tonight. I got the Beef Pad Thai and a side of pot stickers. Ordering and paying online was easy. Got a text that the food was ready about 10 minutes sooner than was quoted. That’s fine, but meant the food would be sitting for a bit by the time I arrived to pick up. The BPT was really good. Reminded me of the BPT from the P.Wei chain which I really enjoy. I got the medium level spice and that added nicely to the sweet flavors. A good balance. The pot stickers were cooled off by the time I opened and started eating them but were good. I’d try a different side next time. My one complaint is portion size vs price. I know everything is higher priced these days due to the last 4 years under the worst president in history, but this could be about a $12 meal. That’s all I have to...
