Let me just start by saying The Flying Fish is ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!! Being raised some years of my life in Lousiana, where we have Delicious Seafood, I was starting to think Texas didn't know what Good Fish/Seafood was, b/c everywhere my family and I went, the seafood was horrible. Well after doing some 'Google Surfing', I came across the 'Flying Fish' & after reading reviews I had to try it. Trying this establishment was the ABSOLUTE BEST DECISION my family & I made seafood wise. Everything was hot, well seasoned but not over seasoned and the hush puppies, I could've ate baskets of those.. lol. The Sweet Tea is Delightful as well as the Fresh Squeezed Lemonade! Now as being an African American Family, I can say that MAINLY all you see is Caucasians dinning here, but please don't let that intimidate or stop you from going/dinning b/c it is still very welcoming and full of "Southern Hospitality". The only reason why I didn't give it 5 stars is b/c of my Seafood Gumbo. It was quite tasty, don't get me wrong, but it was cold and I didn't enjoy that at all. I wanted to let them know, but the line was so long, I just decided not to worry about it. Also, the gentleman taking the orders was not all that friendly and very stand off-ish, and since it was our first time eating here, we had to figure things out on our own. Other than that, the Flyish Fish is...
Read moreFlying Fish is a family favorite for fresh seafood, veggies and sides! Great for low carb dieters, carnivores and vegetarians alike with an awesome selection of kids meals served in dimensional cartoon boats to keep them busy. The walls are covered in fun fishing related photos, old fishing equipment, mounted fish and even mechanical fish.
We ordered the Crab Legs, steamed in Cajun seasoning and served with garlic butter sauce, fresh corn on the cob and new potatoes. The coleslaw was cold and the hush puppies are not to be missed… especially dipped in cold butter! My husband enjoys the pan seared Red Snapper with sautéed veggies - great for low carb or Keto diets. We’ve never had a bad meal here!
Pros: It’s always fresh, hot and delicious! The dining room is split into two sections including an outdoor patio for people who prefer to eat outdoors. There are so many delicious sides that a vegetarian or vegan would have no problem finding something to eat. Cold items are served very cold and hot items are served still steaming which makes for a wonderful experience!
Cons: The full parking lot is a great indication of its popularity and you often have to circle the restaurant just to find a parking spot. There’s no warm water in the bathrooms for washing your hands after...
Read moreMonday, July 1 was our 46th wedding anniversary so I asked my wife where she would like to quietly celebrate lunch and her choice was “Flying Fish”!!! We have eaten here several times in the past few months since our move from Nashville and it has always been GREAT! The atmosphere, the food, and the awesome staff never disappoint and honestly, on our special day I can not ever remember enjoying a meal as we did that day - we both ordered the three-piece catfish lunch with fries, hush puppies, and coleslaw and shared a luscious piece of their famous Key Lime pie! (Then we ordered the same with extra hush puppies to take home to our grandson who enjoyed it as much as we did)! So having traveled throughout fifty states (living in eight of those) and operating as an expat contractor throughout 98 countries on six continents, plus having tasted catfish most recently from the Cumberland, Tennessee, Mississippi, Arkansas Rivers as well as Reelfoot Lake, Sardis Lake, and others, The Flying Fish is our absolute FAVORITE, serving the best tasting fish, sides, and desserts you will ever find! To David and staff, “thank you” for this special memory in our lives - God bless all of you and we will see you...
