I was hesitant to give JJ's a less than perfect review because we eat here often and it has been a favorite of mine since they only had the Hurst location in the mall. I always recommend them to friends. Recently, the menu has expanded and it's clear that JJ's has become more popular in the area, which is great, but I have definitely noticed a decline in the service and quality of the food. In, the last two weeks, I have visited four times and each time, errors were made on my order. Portions are significantly smaller as well. My boyfriend and I often place to go orders, today, we both had breakfast tacos, I added potatoes to one, which costs .75 extra, he did the same. His tacos had potatoes, mine had French fries thrown on top. Previously, I ordered brisket fries to go, I added shrimp which increased the price to about $20. It's my favorite and normally worth the price. I drove all the way home to find that they forgot my queso. I had to drive back to the restaurant to get a cold cup of queso and by the time I got back home, of course my fries were gross. Last weekend, I ordered a margarita, I told our server 3x what flavor I wanted, but still got a different one. I let that slide, but when our food arrived, my daughter had the wrong entree so I still had to send something back. I still took my family to eat there a few days later because they were visiting and curious about the food since we always talk about JJ's. Thankfully, no issues that day. Don't let my experience deter you from giving JJ's a try, the happy hour specials are great and if you dine in, ask for Josh or Oscar, they're the BEST servers. I believe the owner spends a lot of time there, but the guy we've met may be a manager and he's really nice and attentive, once my boyfriend ordered a brisket burrito, he added shrimp but the server misheard him and instead, brought him two entrees, one with a brisket burrito and one with shrimp. This gentleman offered to wrap one up for him to eat later so he was more than happy with that. Mistakes will happen anywhere you frequent enough I suppose, but for me, consistency is what attracts me to restaurants. I'm consistently frustrated with my experiences over the last few months so I will be giving JJ's some space. Update We've been back a handful of times since this review was posted and I would be wrong if I didn't say that our recent experiences have been mostly good. Like I said before, don't let my review deter you from giving them a try. Just writing this is putting me in the mood 4...
Read more7/13…. Lots of potential but they have no idea how to execute a restaurant… I have been here two times and both times the service has been slacking.. the first time we sat in the booths and have a female blonde the server who did not know how to use their mobile order taking system… uncomfortably long silences while she searched her keys for our items.. cheese sticks were huge and great but the quesabirra tacos were in an overcooked tortilla.. very chewy. Wouldn’t recommend.. Margs were strong and ultimately we figured it was a one off new server annd that I should try something different next time and brought our kids back this week to have the massive mozz.. Cheese sticks were still great and huge but Alberto managed to make it all the way to the Togo boxes on the table before he realized he forgot my carbon tacos.. meat was dry and torts were stale, asked for it to go and left…not sure if they were forgot in the kitchen or if that was their best effort on a forgotten dish and it just fell short again… I really WANT to like JJs because all the reviews are seemingly positive and it’s a local margarita bar, But I can’t justify coming back a third time on $15 margaritas alone.. :/ bummed.
7/15 update. Went to the other JJ’s location @ 5040 north tarrant thinking maybe it was just a bad untrained location I kept visiting…. Told them I was picking up a Togo order, Not a single filled table, 8 people at the bar only and the same story with abysmal service that leads me to believe this is clearly a trend with this restaurant and ownership.
Three different visits and two separate locations and every. single. time. it has been trash service.
Save your energy and go somewhere else that understands how restaurants work. It’s sad when Chilis and Applebees can show you up.
This time, Someone from the kitchen brought out the bag and I watched it for 7 minutes without anyone offering it before I interrupted the bartender to ask if he could check if that was my food, which it was. Cooling to perfection on the counter.
Pass. Just pass on this...
Read moreMy wife and I were excited that JJ's was opening a place near our home as we had gone to the one at the mall and it was always great food.
Both times we went to the new one, she got sick after eating the food. First she got fish tacos. She said it tasted great, however, she spent the rest of the night throwing up and had diarrhea. The second time, she got a steak burrito which got her sick again. So she decided she's done with the new place and hesitant going back to the one at the mall.
I've never had any issues with the food either time, but the food was off a bit. Still edible but it was not consistent with the mall restaurant. I'm a big enchilada enthusiasts but didn't care much for them. Again, it wasn't awful...just, off.
Tonight, I made an online order because she didn't want to chance getting sick again, so I was eating solo. I ordered a steak burrito but got something completely different. It was a sweet tasting meat, and it looked like pork. Definitely NOT beef. They put the rice on the side, but not in the burrito, as noted in the menu. It all tasted horrible. To the point where I spit out what I had in my mouth and just threw the rest away. They also put cheese on top of the burrito which was odd because there was no cheese inside. The only thing that was edible was the rice. At least the quesadilla was good...but its really hard to mess up cheese in a tortilla. It was 25 bucks wasted.
As for the atmosphere, it's not bad. They have a nice big bar. Maybe I'll just get hammered first, then eat the food. Everything taste better when you're drunk.
I've recommended them to a few of our neighbors, and they didn't care for it either. I suppose I'll be going back to the mall...if I ever go back. Such a...
