TL/DR - Old Texas Brewing Company, Ft. Worth: -Great food -Great service (Xavier was our server) -Great atmosphere -Great prices -Rate it 9/10 (will be back for sure)
Tried Old Texas Brewing Company, Ft. Worth for the first time today. It was simply amazing, and we had the best server I’ve had anywhere in years, Xavier. Not only was he on top of everything, he made sure we were informed about everything the place had to offer, and he seemed to take pride in the place. He was awesome.
I went there for the chicken fried steak, because I’m always on the lookout for the next best place to get one (RIP Horseshoe Hill Cafe). Not only did it not disappoint, it was the best one I’ve had this year. The fried okra was amazing as well. My wife had the mahi-mahi tacos, and she loved them. We’ll be going back for sure to try their other options, as it was so hard to make a decision (looking at you, brisket nachos).
I will say though, the dinner portion for the chicken fried steak was huge. That is not a small plate. So unless you are looking forward to leftovers, I would suggest the lunch portion.
My only constructive criticisms (but were by no means horrible or even took away from me being able to enjoy what I ordered):
We ordered fried pickles, which tasted great, but seemed to already be well into the cooling process as they were not piping hot (still warm though). They came to the table in about 5 minutes after ordering them, so I’m not sure how they cooled so quickly.
Ranch had a great flavor, but was it was pretty liquidy. I prefer a thicker ranch (see Texas Roadhouse), but at the end of the day, it’s the flavor that matters most, which it delivered on.
Neither are really complaints, just personal preference suggestions.
I highly suggest trying it out. I plan on going back and bringing friends. They have good happy hour / daily specials on food and alcohol, and their general prices are VERY fair compared to any other restaurant. Price for value, it’s sitting at the top...
Read moreHaving just bought a home in Palmilla Springs my wife and I are both new to this side of town but are veterans when it comes to frequenting many of Dallas's popular brew houses / restaurants.
We've been to this location twice and are planning a visit today for Taco Tuesday / Happy Hour (till 7PM). On both of our visits we had the same waitress who upon our second visit remembered us by name and made us feel welcome and invited guests. Its rare that I find a place that has good food, good bar drinks, AND good service... Normally you get 2 out of 3 if your lucky!
I highly recommend the Margaritas though the Old Fashion is killer as well. Great mixology going on behind the bar and my water/tea glass never goes empty. Not only do the staff remember your name (I believe my waitress was Angelina) but anytime it would occur to me "I need to flag someone down and ask for a togo box" Angelina would just happen to show up with one having read my mind. She gives us a opportunity to get a final refill on our soda/tea "to go" which is an added perk when it comes time to reheat leftovers later in the evening. Lastly the bill arrives on-time without me wondering who to ask to bring it to me.
Our third visit will be this evening and if there is continnued consistency we'll be becoming regulars and will begin inviting our friends and family members to join us whatever the occasion. Good atmosphere, attentive staff, great drinks and a diverse food menu all at a reasonable price.. hard to beat. Now to find the perfect dive bar to wrap up a...
Read moreFirst visit impressions... I arrived after the Friday lunch rush.... the place appeared spotless already. The staff was still friendly and cheerful at this point. The restaurant is spacious with a plethora of seating options to suit most every preference.... they got booths, long booths, normal tables, high top tables, bar seating, and even patio seating that includes sun sails to keep the harsh Texas sun from cooking even more. At the bar they have a chiller rail to set your drinks on to help keep them cool down to the last drop. I arrived to order take out. I ordered chicken fried steak and brisket nachos. Normally I would show how the plate arrived for the presentation value but.... to go orders always come in the functional but asthetically unimpressive Styrofoam containers. However.... they did get the order 100% correct and packed in the bag so nothing shifted during my ride home. Once home I began unpacking and noticed that the nachos were not packed like most places would do. Old Texas Brewing Co packed all the components of their brisket nachos INDIVIDUALLY. My chips were not soggy, my cheese was not cold and they skimped on nothing. Both the nachos and the chicken fried steak tasted wonderful and were well worth the price. I also sampled the brisket stuffed jalapeños. These were delicious and not spicy hot. I saw lots of other tempting dishes on the menu so I will return and suggest that you...
