UPDATE (original review below): We went back and the service was fantastic. We sat at the bar and it happened to be during shift change again. This time the server on the way out made sure to communicate with the server who took over. The amazing food was matched by the amazing service. Pappasito's for the win! Original Review: The food was excellent! My go to order is the Pappasito's grill (beef & chicken fajitas, bacon wrapped shrimp, grilled vegetables, Pico with pineapple, comes with rice and beans, and the best butter for dipping! Seriously, order extra!). This time we decided to split the Pappasito's Grill. So we each ordered a cup of the tortilla soup. The soup was delicious, I will definitely order again! I also tried the Wave (frozen margarita and sangria swirl) with salt on the rim, another winner! The reason for the 3 stars is the service. We sat at the bar (which is our usual seats of choice if offered). Our initial greeting was great, Peter welcomed us and gave us some menus, that was the one and only time we were checked on without flagging them down. We think we were handed off to Alieth, because Peter's shift was over, or because they were supposed to be working the bar together, we weren't told but neither checked on us. Alieth was on her phone, or talking with other employees, and Peter was trying to manage things. We were served our soup with our entree (we were expecting it out first), we had to flag them down to ask for napkins, silverware, more salsa, the extra butter we ordered, and the check. When the food was delivered by Alieth and someone else, they didn't ask if everything was OK or if we needed anything, the food was just put in front of us and then they walked away. We had to get their attention to ask for the missing items. There was a bar back type guy that checked on us, he refilled our drinks, and i appreciated that. I'm very disappointed in this visit. We will go back, because hopefully this is an isolated incident and the food is amazing!

We have tried this cantina twice, and both times the food was delightful! The garlic sauce they give you for the fresh tortillas they make is a nice side item! The seafood enchiladas are seasoned to perfection with scallops and shrimp. My only issue is they over load it with cheese, and the meat to bread portions aren’t equal. You get more bread than meat! Now on the other hand, the fajitas are PERFECT! That is truly some of the best chicken and steak meat you can taste! The steak can unfortunately have fatty pieces so be aware of that. The wait can sometimes be up to 30 minutes, but they do text you when your table is ready. The customer service can be A WHOLE LOT better! Our waitress was leaning on our table taking our order and I guess from being tired, she threw our plates down. We were going to complain to a manager, but we let it be, because they were definitely busy, busy (although it’s still no excuse to treat your guest that way, especially when you want a good tip)! My other HUGE CON are the chairs!!! For those who have back issues, it can truly be so uncomfortable!!! Those chairs need to go or be for outdoors only. All in all, we enjoyed the food. It’s definitely worth the price, minus the nasty salsa they serve. The salsa needs a little honey/sugar ratio. It’s too overbearing on acidity contents.

3.5 stars! POSITIVES: great service, great atmosphere and vibe, food came out quickly, professional and friendly staff and cocktails were awesome. NEGATIVES: food and beverages are exorbitantly overpriced. Whereas, you can get most of the same exact items that other fine quality restaurants at half the price. The refried beans were probably the worst I've ever eaten. They actually had some type of spice in them, which made them taste different than any other. How can you mess up refried beans at a Mexican restaurant. We're talking about Mexican food that is basically available at over 100 locations just in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. We all know that it takes pennies on the dollar to make cocktails and this restaurant really is outrageous to charge $17.95 for a Margarita that you can purchase pretty much at any multitude of restaurants at half the price. The food was good but not great. It is more commercially prepared and plated beautifully. However, it does not have that authentic true Mexican flavor. We were a group of four. Two separate couples and our bills were approximately $150 each including the tip. I found this to be somewhat outrageous for a Mexican cantina. I can think of numerous places that I would spend that much for a great meal. However, I would have like to have a tablecloth and better table which was not crammed between two other large parties. I'm not saying that I would not return to this restaurant, I would just do things a little differently and I would definitely not order cocktails. I don't mind paying for anything that I wish to consume. However, when I feel that the menu pricing is exaggerated, it makes me feel ripped off. As a previous restaurant owner I know what it cost to make cocktails and food costs. While I expect every restaurant to make money of course. Overcharging your customers will likely cause them to not return or return as often. This review of course is only my opinion, after dining last evening with my spouse and another couple. All in all we had a good time and great conversations. But we were a little shocked when we received our bills. We paid our bills and tipped our waiter 20% and then went on our way.

Our friend group hasn’t been back to Papasito’s in about 6 months and like our previous visit, we had a long wait to be seated. Once the evening began, I remembered the food being good, but the service slow. That is exactly how our evening went! Glasses of water rolled out pretty quick and then our server took our drink order. THAT took a thick minute to get to the table. She disappeared and finally came to take our food order. THAT took a long while to come as well. There was time for another order of drinks to completion, so we were getting weary and a little annoyed at that point. We made no fuss, because we’re a fun bunch, but one could sense those big lulls in service when conversation slows to, “where’s our food?” Finally, it arrived! We ordered beef and shrimp fajitas with all the “fixings.” The food did not disappoint. The beef was cooked medium rare, was moist, and nicely flavored. It wasn’t hot, but it was warm enough. The beans and rice were great, the guacamole was very good, seasoned and had some nice chunks in there. The tortillas are thin, but served warm, they do their job as a wrap. Finally the piña coladas were good enough. The taste was there, but they were somewhat weak. The restaurant itself is decorated nicely so that you feel like you’re in a Mexican party spot. Our server was very nice, but just not on point. That could have been the kitchen or maybe she was overbooked, or new. Whatever it was, it made for a long evening. Overall I would say if you go in a busy time, are in a small group, be prepared to wait standing up or go find another dining spot. We have many in Fort Worth. It will likely be another 6 months or longer for our group to return here. For context, our previous visit was a group of 8, this time we were a group of six.

Pros and cons. Please read thoroughly. First experience was going there after a rodeo. Horrible mistake. At first we didn't mind spending an hour standing at the bar drinking delicious margaritas. We finally got seated outside. Someone delivered yummy chips and salsa to us and then our server came out one time... Said she'd be back and 40 minutes later. Still no server. We finished the Margaritas we had already paid for and walked out. But we didn't give up... The next time we went there was a completely different experience. It was mid-afternoon on a Sunday. We only waited about 15 minutes. We were seated in booths and immediately got service. The food did take a while to come out but that was perfectly fine. Lots of cowboys and cowgirls there. Bright and vivid decor. I got up to go to the restroom and my purse accidentally dumped out on the floor. A cowboy got up from his table and helped me pick it up. Very sweet. I had my server buy him a drink and put it on my check. The food itself is what I would consider average good Mexican food. Nothing to write home about. But nothing bad either. There is a walk-up area to pick up food to go. Very convenient. Overall, the second experience erased the first experience. But I would definitely recommend NOT going if there's anything going on at the arena. That was our problem that first night. Just too many people. But they sure do know how to make a good margarita!

I am VERY DISAPPOINTED with what I received! This was supposed to be beef enchiladas. Pappasitos has been my favorite Tex Mex restaurant for years. I moved downtown a year ago and they turned into my obsession. Between myself and my son we eat pappasitos 3/4 times a week; dine in & takeout! Unfortunately my last 4 experiences have been horrible! But this sent me over the top as I had a family member pick up my to go order & this is what I received....slop! 1 of my 3 supposedly beef enchiladas wasn't beef, it was cheese which was burned... and for some reason there was a cheese queso sauce on top! I'm really not sure what has happened at this particular location however, the quality is starting to slip because this is certainly NOT the standard!! Approximately 2 weeks ago I was dining in with friends and ordered a Coronado, I subbed the cheese enchilada for a beef yet still received cheese and my bacon wrapped shrimp wasn't thoroughly cooked! I informed the waitress. Instead of the entire meal being replaced, they simply brought a single beef enchilada and 3 bacon wrapped shrimp and then offered to warm my rice and beans as they were now cold waiting for the other things to be remade! To top it off, I WAS STILL CHARGED FOR IT! I am so disappointed at these experiences because this was my favorite place and I literally spend on average at least a $100 a week!
