We recently we had a premature baby and Dec./Jan. was full of reports about how the flu was killing people, so we weren't about to bring a baby who had just left the NICU into a restaurant. I called Shaw's, explained the situation, and asked the manager if they could make an exception to the "dining in" requirement for our Groupon. The answer was a resounding NO. Okay.... So, I sucked it up and went to the restaurant. I get there and jokingly asked if they maybe changed their minds about letting me do take out after explaining the situation, again no. I laughed it off sat down to order. I had to order $20 worth of food so I got two burgers and a salad to eat there. I could feel that the waitress was getting an attitude, but I didn't understand why she had an attitude about me sitting down and ordering food when that's what they told me I had to do in order to use my Groupon. I also ordered fries. As I finished my salad they brought the burgers and I asked for the check. The waitress said that she'd bring me containers to pack up. The waitress brings me my check and the containers and as I packed up I realized that she charged me full price for the fries on special so I asked her about it. She explains that I can't get the special because I'm using a Groupon and I explained that I didn't realize that because I thought I'd already used my promotional value. She says that's not how it works. Well, I haven't even gotten the fries so I asked to speak to the manager to just say never mind. At that point, the waitress and manager come over to me and tag-team yelling at me. The manager is a woman but a real "tough guy" type. She tells me that Groupon makes the rules and that's why I couldn't do take out and that she shouldn't even allow me to take my food out. What? After I go through all the trouble of coming there and abiding by their rules, the owner says she shouldn't "allow" me to take my food out?!? People were staring at me and it was so embarrassing, which put me on the defensive. I packed my food up and prepared to go. The waitress brought me a corrected check and smugly says there's a 2.50 charge for using your credit card if it's under $5. I said, no worries, just let me add the gratuity and she's like I can't do that? This is the last straw. I pack up my food and grab cash from the car and hand her a $5. Not only did she lose a great tip but I have always taken clients to Shaw's to promote local. NEVER AGAIN. They lost both my personal and...
Read moreI have been to Shaw's before and ordered chicken strips. I think they were fine. Today, Wednesday, I went during lunch. I was seated in an area where, at the time, there was only one other table. The hostess told the server that he would not be serving us, but another serverwould. We waited lo ger than usual to put in a drink order. So the hostess came and took out drink order. The server did not show up, so we ended up asking for the server who was working the section to take our table as well. He was very competent. We ordered the Big Tex and the Shroom burger. And pretzels as the appetizer. The pretzels were so bad. They were like the superpretzels that you buy at Wal Mart, and I am certain that they were microwaved. They were terrible. Our excellent server took them back and offered a different appetizer. We ordered the fried green beans. Meanwhile, our meals arrived. The Shroom burger was very good, but the French fries had zero flavor. The Big Tex had jalepenos on it. They were just raw, sliced jalapenos. The coleslaw tasted very old. It tasted like the cabbage had gone bad, and there was zero flavor to the dressing on it. Then the green beans arrived. So many green beans. Enough for an army of people, which is a shame, because they had very little flavor to them. They were crispy, and a tiny bit spicy. Barely perceptable. They were served with what appeared to taste like ranch that had been blended with fresh jalapenos. It wasn't impressive. 50.00 later, all we ate were the burgers. Definitely not worth it. Our sever was very good, however, he took good care of us. I will not ever return to Shaw's again. I could have had a burger down the street at Braum's, and it would have...
Read moreMy party was seated when I arrived so I walked past a line of people waiting to be seated.
It was Half-Price Burger Night. We sat inside. It wasn't crowded or very busy; very few occupied tables.
On the plus side, our food was served hot & well prepared--very tasty. Everyone's order was correct at my table & all comments from my fellow diners about the food's taste & quality were positive. Our server was very friendly and pleasant. The restaurant appeared to be clean. I enjoy the 'old pub' decor and atmosphere.
On the not-plus side, another diner at my table commented she had waited 20 minutes for our server to take her order. (Doubt my friend used a stopwatch but it probably was awhile.) When the server arrived at the table, she asked for my drink order; I had to ask her to take my food order. She did. She brought my soft drink order. She never offered me a refill--so I was literally sucking on ice chips at the end of the evening. I have no idea if she had other tables elsewhere but in our area, there were only 2 occupied. We would go long stretches of time (15 to 20 minutes) without seeing her. She was not attentive to her tables in...
