Pros: Impressive Beer selection Good atmosphere Fries are OK
Cons: The food The price The person at the front
The short version: I'm sure it's a great place to have some beers and side dishes but I wouldn't recommend it for a full meal... especially not breakfast.
More Details: The $13 chicken tenders were equivalent to crunchy cardboard. Without the dipping sauce, it felt like chewing on flavorless GrapeNuts... and for $13 I'd like to pay for some good chicken and not restaurant-supply-ranch-dressing.
The Bacon Breakfast Burrito I ordered, first came so under heated that the tater tots inside were cold. They were nice enough to remake it for me and the 2nd one was just barely above room temperature inside. It was so luke-warm that the cheese inside the burrito wasn't melted, which made for an unpleasant texture when biting in. The spicy mayo was a flavor atomic bomb... as in there was no other flavor; just an oversaturation of vinegar-y, bitter, unpleasantness. Looking at the picture on their website, I'm unsure now if it even was spicy mayo, mine had a significantly different color.
Four of us had 4 mains, 3 fries, 4 fountain drinks, and a bottle of water. The total was around $80 and none of us walked away happy with our food.
The person at the front is a little more complicated but I think worth mentioning as it was part of the dinning out experience. She was very pleasant and personable, she even took time to talk us through ordering as it was our first time there. But then my 11 year-old orders a bottle of water, to which she replies "ew, it's Dasani... are you sure?" The four of us kind of stare at her not knowing how to react to this information. She then says, "Listen, I'm super into water, I drink water like every day. Dasani is the worst." At this point I assume it's a joke or some kind of bit that she's doing and try to play along. But no, she is very serious about her distaste for Dasani! So we get an extra fountain drink just in case the bottled water is "bad"... because I'm sure soda is a better alternative!?!? Now, to be fair, on a scale of bad customer service... this is pretty mild. More comical then anything but it was such a bizarre encounter that I felt like turning and leaving right then. AND my kid had a couple sips from the bottle of water and was convinced that it tasted weird. So now I have a lifetime of either: only buying specific brands of bottled water OR fighting with my kid to drink the water we have! So that's a nice button...
Read moreLooking at the menu and prices, I thought this was going to be another place with bland, overpriced hipster food. Turns out, it is actually reasonably priced hipster food that tastes amazing. The hot dogs are $10, but it is really filling and made of quality meat with a heap of toppings. Spicy options actually have a kick, and the flavor is popping in the sauces.
Shout out to the mother clucker chicken sandwich. One of the first chicken sandwiches I've had in a while that takes "crispy" seriously. The miso ranch sauce was a great compliment with the breading and wasn't overwhelming with the salt.
The only negative thing I can say is that the drinks are on the pricey side, especially for the area. The existence of the Explorium and the Brass Tap down the road make for more options and price advantage. I'll stick with soda or water...
Read moreFunnily enough, I found an Instagram reel from Dog Haus with them preparing a “Cowboy” dog and I had to investigate where said place was located. Noticed on their account Wisconsin wasn’t listed so I let out a sigh of disappointment. Proceeded to go to their website to see where the closest one is, come to find out there’s a new one in Franklin! So obviously had to make the trip for lunch today. It did not disappoint! Tasted and looked just how I imagined it from the Instagram post! Also had to try a breakfast burrito because those looked amazing too and they were phenomenal. Great recommendation from the staff member to go with sunny side up instead of scrambled. The vibe is super cool and can only imagine this place is buzzin in the summertime. Definitely will be...
