Handel's Homemade Ice Cream — Restaurant in Franklin

Very disappointed in the small portions at this location. For those of you who have loved Handel's at any of their other locations in the U.S., you will be disappointed in the amount you get here. Sad too, because the ice cream is awesome, with so many great flavors. But the amount of ice cream was easily half what it is at every other location we've been to. We've visited stores in the areas of Hermosa Beach, CA Frisco TX, Akron OH, & more. At every other location the portions were wonderful, they really made going there worth it. Sadly, these small portions will not make me hurry back, or go frequently, or bring others there to experience. I almost asked to see the manager to find out if all the stores across the US have decided to use these much smaller portions, but decided not to bother. Bottom line, you will love the flavors, but not the tiny portions.

The 2 photos below show images I found online (I forgot to take a photo of my cone). The wimpy chocolate one is what you get at this store. The heftier one is more typical of the way all other stores made their cones/portions. There's a wow factor when you get the normal amount from Handel's. It's an "are you kidding me" amount if you've ever gotten Handel's in other locations. If the portion was what it used to be, this would have been a 5 rating on the ice cream. Every so often I pick up delivery orders at this location. Today was no different. I typically have a subpar experience when picking up to-go orders here, but today was probably one of the worst. I went to the designated pickup window and waited. And waited. And waited. For 15 minutes I stood at the window and not a single employee out of the maybe 10 employees in the building asked what I needed. Made eye contact with plenty of employees. Plenty of them were standing on their phones or talking, so it wasn’t an issue of being too busy. Finally after 15 minutes a young fella checked on me and grabbed my order for me.

However, my wait time really wasn’t the most concerning issue. During the 15 minutes that I spent watching all of the employees, I noticed that nobody was enforcing any kind of food safety regulations. I saw one girl handle a tub full of waffle cones with her bare hands. I know for a fact she hadn’t washed her hands at least within the last 15 minutes that I was there. I also saw another employee throw his entire foot up on the counter to tie his shoe. Shoe and all on the counter. I wouldn’t even do that in my own home.

Overpriced ice cream prepped on dirty counters and handled with bare, unwashed hands. Sounds exactly like what I want to spend 15+ minutes...
