Health Sushi — Restaurant in Franklin

I really had high hopes for this place, and try my best to support small, minority-owned businesses as often as possible. We looked all over the area for vegetarian ramen and tried Health Sushi for the first time based on the many vegetarian options their online menu offered. When we arrived, I explained to the server that my daughter was vegetarian and had found meat in vegetarian dishes she was served at other restaurants so we are extremely cautious. The server explained there would be no meat (or stray roe, which is super common) in her vegetarian sushi. Our ramen came, my husband’s sushi came, we ate. 1/3 through my daughter’s ramen, she found chicken. I pulled it out, tasting it compared to the bamboo shoots, and it was chicken. I found more and more chicken. The chef shouted “no meat!” from behind the counter as he heard us asking why there was chicken in her vegetarian dish, then the server explained the noodles were cooked in the same water they boil chicken, and the noodles pick up pieces of chicken. My daughter became upset and wanted to leave, and we did, since her sushi was never delivered and she had nothing to eat. They were kind enough to not charge us for the sushi we never received or her ramen. I don’t write this to harm their business, I do so for other vegetarians to not have the same experience. This business advertises itself as an option for vegetarians. My hope is they use this opportunity to learn what that really means so they can provide much-needed true vegetarian food to our area. PLEASE IGNORE EVERY BAD REVIEW. For real, I’m not the type of person to ever even leave online reviews but I know restaurants in today’s times live and die on their reviews. My family and I frequently visit Health Sushi because it is hands down the best value and quality in Franklin for Sushi OR Ramen. If you want Ramen stay away from Ichiddo where it tastes like dirty dishwater and come here instead where it takes like it came from a Japanese grandma’s kitchen. The Sushi and Sashimi are high quality and they are much more generous with their portions than any other sushi place around the area. Any reviews saying otherwise frankly have unreal expectations. I eat here every week, have been dozens of times, and I’ve never had a bad sushi experience. If you order sashimi the portions of fish are huge and well worth the money compared to any other place around. The people complaining about service need to take a deep breath and realize it’s the same 3 people running the whole little restaurant every hour of every day they are open. I ignored the reviews and came here because someone once told me that this was the best hidden gem in Franklin. Don't ignore the reviews. The service is abysmal. Pretty sure the lady serving hates people. Someone in the reviews complained she seemed to hate brown people. No, pretty sure it is all people. She threw some menus in front of me and ignored me for 15 minutes. It was not busy at all and she seemed to go out of her way to ignore me and try not to take my order.

It took 15 minutes for her to finally decide to show back up at my table to take my order. I was about to walk out the door and go somewhere else. Still kinda wish I did. It was 22 minutes before I even got a water. It took 45 minutes to get my food despite the restaurant being fairly empty and everyone left in there long having their food. By the time I was eating, the restaurant was mostly empty.

The food was really good. No complaints at all there, but why would I want to ever eat again in such a hostile and unfriendly atmosphere when there are literally so many other more pleasant...
