Today was the first time I ate at this restaurant. I saw a segment on "Talk of the Town" and one of their chef's made the Quinoa bowl and it looked so delicious I just had to try it. Unfortunately, what was shown on TV was NOT what I received. I had a "to go" order and was shocked when I got home and opened up the container. It looked like child-sized portions. About 1/2 cup of quinoa that barely covered the bottom of half of the small container and 1/4 cup or less of chopped tomatoes, cucumbers and onions, and two very small chicken kebobs. The chicken was flavorless...not the classic seasoned Greek chicken you get at most restaurants. Just plain grilled chicken. I asked for soft pita bread instead of pita chips and could not believe what they gave me. Four tiny little pieces of hard thin bread that were HALF of a mini-pita. Not even a whole pita...and not a large fluffy soft one like most Greek restaurants give you. I wish I could review the baklava, but they forgot to put it in my bag. So I paid for that, but didn't recieve it. I also ordered the baked feta and it was delicious. My son ordered the beef gyro and it was half the size of a normal gyro. Made on small pita bread. The prices are good. But the portion sizes are ridiculous. I'm so disappointed because we really wanted to like this restaurant. I am use to eating at privately-owned Greek restaurants...not national chain ones. My son said that was the reason it was so different and...
Read moreJust stopped in and placed a to-go order of 2 grilled veggie plates. On their menu, it's described as grilled vegetables "served over a bed of basmati rice, salad mix and feta..." When we ordered, the cashier asked which sides we wanted. While the menu didn't indicate that a side was included, we were asked and said that one should have cucumber/tomato salad and potato chips for the other. When we got home and opened the boxes, neither had rice. We called the restaurant and were told that because we ordered a side (which we did only because we were asked) they didn't include rice. Both of the people to whom my husband spoke on the phone were rude and claimed that ordering a side removes the rice. That makes ZERO sense. Why would it remove the rice and not the salad? Why should anything be removed from the original description of the meal? The fact that their server didn't know their menu and erroneously asked which sides we wanted should not alter the stated contents and construction of the original meal. In looking at the order ticket that was taped to one of our boxes, there is nothing that indicates "minus rice" or "substitute". Perhaps if the two employees speaking to my husband had been friendlier about this, I wouldn't be leaving this...
Read moreI remember when I first passed by Taziki's, before it opened. My hope for a good Greek place was mixed with doubt - I mean, if they can't spell Tzatziki right, how can they possible get the food right?
When it opened, my wife and I gave it a shot - and it's safe to say we were quite impressed.
As far as the gyros go, they're not legitimate gyros - but there's no real disappointment there. While there is no meat on a spit, slowly rotating around a heater, what you get in its place is real meat... the Beef Tenderloin is phenomenal, and the Chicken Gyro, and Chicken Pesto Gyros are really great too.
The vegetables, and toppings all taste fresh - this is important, because far too often a good gyro is easily spoiled by lettuce that's far from crisp, tomatoes that have no flavor, and pita that tastes more like paper.
The pita bread you'll get your gyro in here is, hands down, one of the best pita breads you'll find in Nashville.
If you're a fan of dolmades, then Taziki's is definitely worth trying. They're legitimate dolmades - served warm, and made in house. These aren't the canned dolmades, or Whole-Foods dolmades that come soaked in oil... these domades are plump, warm, and delicious.
If you like Greek food, then you really ought to...
