I'm really not sure how this place is rated over a 4 out of 5 stars. We just moved the Frederick a couple of months ago and are trying out new places. Decided to stop here since it's highly rated and we need to find a local favorite Mexican place. This was the complete opposite. The 2 out of 5 stars is the food rating. It was the blandest watery Mexican food I've ever had.
We got the queso (orange cheese, if you are wondering between that and white) tortilla chips appear to be store bought and not in house which seems odd. I got the chimichanga and my partner got a combo with 2 enchiladas and a taco.
The chicken chimichanga was fried and crispy on the outside as you would want. But it was way too watery and bland on the inside. The refried beans were heavily seasoned with cumin. The rice was also meh to me, but that may be due to the typical spanish rice places tend to serve that I like more -thr kind that is more dence and nutty. This was more like a lighter blander rice. My parter agreed that his dish was also bland and watery, so this seems to be a consistent issue. He did like his beans and rice though.
They only offer one beer size-small, instead of small or tall options, if that's something you care about as a beer person.
The service was not good. They didn't acknowledge us at the door, just 5 people talking amongst themselves figuring out who would have us and where they would seat us. We were seated and when the waitress came to our table a few minutes later, the first thing out of her mouth was "Do you guys know what drinks you want yet?" Not shy or pleasant like maybe it came off weird, just that. No "Hello. My name is Cami, etc" My partner even started with "Hey, how's it going?" And she still just led with the question on drinks. I don't expect much but I was a bit shocked that that was the intro. The whole time was the same. They weren't overly busy. It seems like she just wanted to go back to talking to the other waiters/waitresses throughout our time there.
The place does have a smell as well as other reviews have stated and the bathroom appears to be a one stall bathroom.- I tried to use it early on but the door was locked, I just didn't try again at that point. I usually get dessert out. But went elsewhere for dessert as I didn't want to waste my calories and money on something so subpar.
I don't think I've ever left a poor review on a place, but I don't see how this place has so many good ones unless it's just locals who have gone there for years and find comfort, or people who come from places that only have subpar food. I have had Mexican food at this price point that was much much better quality. If you have too, don't waste your time, money, or calories if you track...
Read moreThe staff are always fabulous! The owner is very present and involved in client satisfaction. Anwar is the best server in 3 states, no joke. We have been going here for at least 12 years, probably more. When my daughter was a baby, we would go in for dinner. Anwar, being the incredible human and super human server that he is, carried her around as he worked so that I could have a warm meal. He also set a special dinner up for my parents' anniversary. We visit this restaurant and Anwar on our happiest days and our saddest. My family will always be grateful for everything the staff does. Anwar goes above and beyond consistently, with the best food service you can ask for and the smile of a friend who is genuinely happy to see you. Ok Ok Ok now to the food. Everything I have ever gotten here has been amazing. They are happy to accommodate food allergies if possible. They give you fresh salsa and chips as soon as you are seated. Mango margaritas are my drink of choice at Fajita Grande. It is without fail the best I've had. The spinach and cheese enchiladas are my go-to meal. It comes with rice, refried beans, sour cream, lettuce, guacamole, and pico. The taco salad, chimichanga , and grilled Mexicano are always fan favorites as well. When it comes to dessert, there is no one around that compares. They have fried ice cream, sopaipillas, ice cream sundaes, and the star of the show the bread pudding. The bread pudding is served on a hot iron skillet with chocolate sauce sizzling and a scoop of ice cream and a swirl of whipped cream. Again, hands down the absolute...
Read moreI always enjoy being able to come in and order to-go meals. Unfortunately, the last time that I visited, I had a less than happy experience. We always enjoy the burrito grande and always order 3. This time, the waiter suggested that I eat my appetizer nacho macho chips (tortilla chips with melted cheese, jalapeños, salsa, and sour cream) while I waited for the 3 entrees. The waiter was distracted, and it appeared that waiting on a customer was not what he wanted to do. (He was enjoying a chat with another customer/friend.) The nacho nachos were good. However, the whole dish became a mess as it was hard to separate the chips from one another. The whole plate kind of glued itself together. Then, when the 3 entrees were ready, there were only 2. The waiter misunderstood the order. So, another wait as the missing entree was cooked. When the three entrees were ready, the waiter handed me a take out box for me to put my nachos in. Only the nachos had congealed and could not be moved off the plate. Eventually, the waiter came back, and when I told him that I could not slide the nachos off of the plate, he brought me a plastic fork to push the food into the box. I wasn't a very happy customer at this point. Not only have their prices gone up (like everyone elses), but the customer service was the worst. Our server was very distracted. We probably won't come back even though we have always...
