There is no place in the entire state like Tachens. As you walk in the chef is there handing you samples of each soup he has prepared for the day.... and it will be a difficult choice because they are always excellent. I've been looking for a place that makes good soup and this spot delivers 10 fold! The soup is a grand slam every time! The soups choices change weekly so it's a constantly evolving restaurant in terms of food. They have a sandwich selection to cover all bases. My personal favorite is the chicken salad. Such a simple sandwhich that not everyone gets right except Tachens!! I'm a huge fan of chicken salad but noone has come close to this one. The bread for the sandwiches are baked on site every day so you'll always have fresh food. Many excellent sandwhich choices there, but go and check it out... This is the only true hidden gem I have ever come accross. There aren't enough stars to give for this place. It's so nice to have a place that uses fresh ingredients and someone who cares about what goes into the food that's prepared. If you are on the fence, just walk inside and get a sample. You will not be disappointed. Oh I almost forgot about the "grown up tuna" sandwich....it's awesome!

I finally got a chance to go to 10 Course Tasting Dinner. The best way to describe it is “WOW!”. Started it off with a cold blueberry soup and finished it off with a strawberry cheesecake. My favorites were the bacon jam and seared tuna. Every dish was delicious. Chef Mike described every course as they served them. He uses locally sourced ingredients. On this night he used all locally grown summer fruits and vegetables. Each and every course was delicious. There wasn’t anything left on any of my plates. It’s a BYOB. Great food, great price and great atmosphere. I highly recommend you go the next tasting dinner…but don’t wait because it sells out quickly.

WHY, OH WHY, have I not heard of this little slice of heaven?! The owner/chef bakes the bread DAILY, so no two-day old bread. The menu changes out weekly. As soon as I walked in the door, he offered me samples of the homemade soups. All of the ones I sampled were delicious. I decided to bring home a yellow watermelon ginger cold soup. The sandwich that I decided to eat for lunch was a sweet potato sandwich with mozzarella and other veggies on a homemade baked sweet potato roll. That bread gave me life! There were other tempting options, but this sandwich was so unique, I had to have it. I can't wait to return.

Me and my coworkers have been ordering here once a week for the last month or so. That says enough right there but I will keep going. The chef/owner, Mike, personally serves you and takes your orders with a big smile. I love the small menu so it's not too overwhelming. As others have noted, the ingredients are FRESH, homemade, and locally sourced. He changes the menu on a weekly basis so there is always something new to try. So far, I've had the potato bacon soup, coconut shrimp soup, and the summer squash soup. Personally, the summer squash is my number one but all are fabulous. As far as sandwiches, I've enjoyed the ribeye, the pork loin, and the strawberry turkey. Honestly, I can't pick one as a favorite. That spicy peanut spread is such a delightful bite with the pork and cucumber. The strawberry jam on that turkey, so sweet, and balances so well with the cheddar. Lastly, today, I tried the seared tuna salad which prompted me to come write the review. The salad for $11 was huge! I couldn't finish it. Around here, a decent salad is close to $20 easy. The tuna was seared perfectly, but the star was the Wasabi Vinaigrette. I tried it and immediately started dancing out of contentment. It was a surprisingly perfectly balance vinaigrette with just the right amount of that wasabi heat. I love this place and will continue to frequent here for lunches. I also see, from another review, that he does an occasional multicourse dinner. I need to find out how to get on that list. I cannot believe I am just now discovering this place and am sad that I spent so many years buying mediocre lunches. Thank you, Mike, for such a wonderful...

Our group of 4 enjoyed our lunch with Mike at his new luncheonette immensely. Starting with his amazing repertoire of highly welcome soups (makes you forget about the cold weather), we had a four-course meal which would be tough to beat. We especially loved the pumpkin ginger and mushroom soups, but the others were close in appeal. Of course Mike's soups were accompanied by some great fresh-baked breads, which were just about still warm from the oven. Next we had some wonderful salads (Please pay attention, all those of you who are fearful of carbs.) The seared tuna and shrimp salads were both perfectly presented and very fresh, with high quality dressings on the side. Our third course included several excellent sandwiches which were both creative and comforting, as a good deli sandwich should be. The pork with mango was especially appealing, as was Mike's meal loaf creation. Lastly, the deserts were tough to resist and included lots of chocolate options, which we highly recommend. The toll house cookies were over the top. Overall this is a great find, and we cannot imagine that anyone would have difficulty finding delectable options on the menu. The setting is cheerful, comfortable and relaxed. Plus Mike is a wonderful host, who is affable, attentive and easy to talk to. Give this place a try - I guarantee you'll be...
