Oh I'm so surprised I haven't written a review here yet! So I came here a couple times already and it's my absolutely favorite sushi spot. They provide really hearty portions of fish slices and the rolls are the biggest I've seen across the East Bay. Also the prices cannot be beat! The only downside is that the restaurant is really small - only a few groups can dine in and their tables are nearly touching each other. I would recommend coming on weekdays or not during peak lunch/dinner time Friday-Sunday. Or you would have to wait. We came here Friday for dinner and only had to wait about 20 minutes to get seated.
I've tried the spitfire, mukbang, gilroy garlic, splash brothers, mixed carpaccio, nigiris, tempura appetizer, lion king, and forgot what else. The rolls with spicy tuna were my favorite - they're so flavorful with the sauces and it was just oh so amazing. If you're not a fan of Americanized rolls, try their chirashi bowl. Super generous portions of fish and rice for $20! We couldn't believe how much we got for the price, especially in the Bay Area. There's a reason why this place is always crowded!
You order at the front and then you seat yourself. They have self-serve waters and tea that you grab on your own. Definitely worth trying if you love sushi, and if you don't want to wait, just order takeout. They also have noodle dishes (ramen and udon) that looked good, maybe I'll try that next time. Hoping their new location in Milpitas will alleviate some...
Read moreThis is a small restaurant that serves japanese food and staffs are friendly. It's your typical cheap sushi rolls, where you get your bang for your bucks type of place. The rolls are quite huge and packed which is a good thing because you will get full. However some pieces of the sashimi aren't very good. Ordered the Sunshine roll because I really like hamachi and cilantro. The sauce tasted good, but it was a tad too much sauce. Some of the hamachi pieces were quite fishy. The California roll, while it's a good portion, there was just too much mayo inside with the crabmeat. The Boujee roll was interesting, you do get your lobster meat, but they're cut up into pieces and deep fried (tempura) - i thought the lobsters were somehow rolled into the sushi roll, but it was just scattered on the side. Didn't think this was worth $20. Ordered a ramen for the kids and it was just average. it tasted like packaged broth.
overall, i think it's a decent place for a quick meal but be aware that it's not the best quality fish here.
FYI: you get your own water here, they don't serve it to you. there's no restrooms in...
Read moreI didn’t get any rolls so that may have had a much higher impact on the experience I had with the food compared to other reviews. I usually go for nigiri and sashimi. I got a specialty rice bowl on their menu topped with sashimi. The rice was sweet like they put sugar or something in it and it had too much moisture more like a Korean sticky rice instead of a Japanese sushi rice. The fish was ok but they put a wasabi sauce on it which disrupted the flavor. The atmosphere was cramped like a cheap mom & pop burger shop with no public restrooms and drinks were in cans so it’s a better to-go place than a dine-in experience. The staff was kind and courteous but there was no service. You take a seat and go up to the counter when ready to order, and there are no drink refills, just buy another can. They did have hot tea (way too hot-dangerously so) and water available for free at the counter. All in all, I expected way more from a restaurant with 4.6 stars so I thought a fair and more realistic review...
