I visited this restaurant on Feb 15. I did not really know where I wanted to eat but i knew i wanted something tasty. I never tried Dai Bai Dang and i really wanted to but never got around to it. What drew me into Spicy J's was the sign out front, happy hour EVERYDAY! Not just on weekends, a deal i couldn't say no to. I believe the happy hour time is 4- 7 but i could be wrong. They offer a great selection on the food items for the happy hour there are also drinks available but i paid no mind to it since i just wanted to eat. My overall experience was great. The Manager on Duty Elvia was wonderful she was very attentive and checking in on almost all her guests and employees which is hard to find at a restaurant. I also noticed she was very helpful, constantly walking around making sure her employees were doing. Very sweet hardworking girl. I ordered the Kung Pao Chicken(not too spicy for me but maybe for others, i ate all the peppers in it lol) and apparently i was supposed to receive soup and salad with my order which is stated on the menu; the server told me i could only pick one. I thought oh maybe its just an error in the menu but later read a review where a woman ordered the same item and received both. Minor flaw and i believe it will be corrected. the kids items are very well portioned. Definitely could feed a tween. Should have smaller option called Mini J's for children 4 and under. The portions are super big at this restaurant kind of like those mom and pop Chinese restaurants, this is that but Americanized. The food was ready in a timely manner did not have to wait very long at all. The pricing is fair not exactly "cheap" but for being in the area that it is in it is inexpensive compared to the surrounding restaurants. Overall my five stars is for quality and Quantity minor flaws did not affect this because the service was wonderful. Thank you...
Read moreI’m officially a fan!
I’ve been here about three times now. I went to the soft opening and I came around Dec 2022 and I’m not going to lie, I was not impressed.
BUT I came back recently in January 2023 (because I won a gift card for leaving a review in December) and let me tell you- I was blown away at how delicious everything was!
I came with my sisters and friends and tried a bunch of stuff. My personal favorites and the reason I came to spicy J in the first place is the Szechuan they use in their food, it’s spicy but not spicy and it makes your mouth numb. The Szechuan won tons, chicken and eggplant were so good! This is where I’ve had the best kung pao chicken, I usually don’t care for kung pao but this one is so good. I tried their vinegar pork ribs and I loved it too.
For vegetarians I totally recommend the tempura fries, eggplants, and for the appetizer I love the salad.
It was my sisters birthday and they brought out a gong and they sang happy birthday in Cantonese. They brought out a fried banana egg roll dessert to share and it was delicious. (And free) lol then they let her hit the gong for luck and prosperity.
There were a couple more plates I forgot to take a picture of and it was too late because we tore it up but I tried to upload as much as I could.
I can officially say I love this place and I am...
Read moreGoogle has this place wrongly labeled. When I went to order it was not Dai Bai Dang, it is called Spicy J's. They have a similar menu and the same items so I thought maybe it was the same place but new name. They said my order was ready at 8:11 and I waited until 8:50 to get my order. They kept asking my name and asking if I was another person. There was a person before me and they kept doing the same thing. When she got her order, they offered her a coke for her wait. When I went up, they asked me to prove my order because they couldn't find it. The person who looked like a manager, small hispanic girl, had no customer service but talked in a high voice on the phone to make it seem like she did but was so rude to those in front of her. I kept trying to give them a chance because they seemed busy and wanted to taste the food. Once I got the food, same item I order from the old menu (crispy chicken), it was not the same. It was cold, the carrots were not cooked all the way and super crispy. The veggies were not the same and there was no flavor. I get it's a new place and they definitely don't live up to the old place but if you can't bring quality food than why try. Don't give this...
