So I visited this restaurant on my first trip to Dallas. When I looked up the Yelp reviews the prices seemed reasonable and the reviews were pretty good. Being that I am not from the area, I typed the name of this restaurant in my GPS and was led to this establishment in Frisco. (Ended up being the wrong restaurant!! Will get to that later)
Arrived and the place was packed. Expected for a brunch place on Saturday. There was no order when you got into the restaurant people were everywhere due to the weather that particular weekend. So it took a while to put our name on the list. Young lady puts our name on the lists and tells us 20 mins. We wait in our car but we get seated pretty quickly. The place is very small and seating is super close together which isn't the best. We order our food, it comes quickly but the quality is not the best But after a long travel day we dealt with it. I told the waiter that my drink wasn't that great and he hesitated and looked at me for a while and said he would take it off the menu. We get ready to go and our waiter says he can take our payment by card. I told him I had cash. He gave me our bill and told me to head to the front to pay.
My family went one way and I headed to the front to pay. By this time the restaurant is even more packed than when we arrived. I pay and hand our waiter a tip and leave. When I get into my car, my husband tells me that the owner (a women of Asian descent) chased him down and was like he needed to pay for our bill. He explained to her that I was inside paying.
Let me reiterate that we were the only African-American family that was dining in at the time. This tells me she was watching us the whole time. As packed as that placed was she had time to spot my husband leaving but couldn't spot me paying for our subpar food. She literally chased my husband down who was with our three children.
When I went back to speak to her the coward wouldn't even show her face, and had someone else say that it was because of the drink I had removed off my bill. Which makes no sense, what does one food item have to do with us paying our bill.
So I wrote a review literally the day it happened. Turns out there are two restaurants named "Berries and Batter" when in Frisco and another in Highland. The one in Highland was the one I ran across on Yelp, but the one in Frisco is the one my GPS sent me too. After I wrote the review the owner of Highland reached to me and apologized even though it wasn't his place of establishment and even though they have the same name they are two completely separate entities. He explained that racism is not tolerated at their location, and he knew for sure that I didn't visit because the drink in question that was removed from my bill is not even on their menu. Please do yourself a favor and skip this...
Read moreI had some time to kill this afternoon and decided to try Berries & Batter Cafe located in Frisco for brunch.
I came on a Saturday afternoon around 12, I called ahead to check the wait time, it was 25 minutes. I put myself on the waitlist, I was sitting in the parking lot. They wanted me to come in and check in. (Even though I told them I'm here, in the parking lot) parking was packed.
The restaurant was very busy and extremely loud. The acoustics of the place are terrible. I would suggest some bunting for the ceiling or soft wall covering to absorb the sound. It was overwhelming.
The restaurant was a fun decor but seems hodge podge and that they tried to do so many things and threw it together. Didn't feel very cohesive.
The walls are white with a brick wall accent, with pops of turquoise in the bench seating. There is a cool mural moment with butterflies that I appreciated. In the middle of the restaurant is hanging wood ceiling drop down with bulbous light fixtures. Those were fun. Over the bar is different hanging art sculptures of people. There are different light fixtures on one side of a restaurant that are steel orbs, twine nautical on the other and contemporary LED in the front. The brick wall had a photo collage moment. There is just a LOT going on.
Since there was a wait, I sat at the bar and ordered a spicy bloody Mary.I think the bartender probably forgot my order and started doing other things. Another bartender came by to help. The bloody Mary was served with a skewer of cubed cheese, lunch meat, olives and garnished with bacon. It was tasty. Bar was dirty, lots of stacked glasses that needed to be washed. My glass with served with bubbles on the outside which made me pause.
When I was finally sat, my server was quick and efficient. I ordered the cowboy omelette and subbed fruit for sides. The omelette was tasty, the eggs were fluffy, the fruit of blackberries, strawberries and blueberries fresh.
You have to check out at the front desk which I found to be inconvenient, since you have to wait in line by the front door. Floor was dirty.
Overall, the experience was ok. Food was good but the environment was...
Read moreLet's start with the place. A beautiful modern interior, well lit, walls adorned with interesting art....this place is lit! When we went there as the video may show, it was Mother's day and they went all out to make it look chic elegant! Decor & Ambience - 5/5
Service - the gentleman who served us super pleasant and attentive. 5/5
Menu - a pretty exhaustive at the same time not exhausting menu with crowd pleasing favorites and unique B&B items! Example - the menu starts with a list of mimosas and drinks available right on the first page. So it is a 6/5
Food - rating of what we ordered A) OJ - freshly squeezed and the fragrance of that hits you as you do the checkin. It is sweet and doesnt get messed up with any ice cubes. 5/5
B) Hummus Avocado toast - I wanted to get a bit adventurous so chose this over the regular Avocado toast. The portion size was perfect, the hummus and avocado were flavorful. It came with eggs done any style - I chose the scrambled with fresh jalapeños added..it had a zing to it. It is served with Berries keeping up with the theme of the spot. The only thing I would do different next time is ask for the hummus on the side and take the regular toast so that the bread doesn't get soft! Overall a 4.5/5
C) Hash browns - asked for well done. Got it that ways. The big difference between this and other brunch places, the hash brown did not have the burnt grill taste. So a perfect 5/5
D) B&B French Toast - the best half chose the house special french toast. A sinful combination of fluffy toasts, drenched in oozing goodness of syrup & cream and if you have kept up till now....loads of Berries! Perfect 5/5
Special tip:
Additional observation - saw the gentleman on the table next order the granola, yogurt plate. Very generous and looked complete as a breakfast food!!
A must try,...
