Rude and inappropriate commentary made today by the host/manager during a suprise retirement luncheon for a co-worker.
I was at Cantina Laredo today during lunch and ordered a chicken enchilada with tomatillo sauce. When I tasted it, it was too spicy for my liking. I decided to return the meal and order a chimichanga. While my order was being placed and made, the host/manager came to the table, at first I thought for casual conversation with us however he proceeded today I'm sorry you didn't like your food because it was too spicey and in the same breath asked me where I was ask me where I was from, like I must not be from Texas (which I'm not but I didn't tell him that, I've lived here for 26 yrs though) and say he was sorry that I did not enjoy my food however, it is a Mexican restaurant and they use 15 spices for various meals, and it is a Mexican restaurant so that is to be expected. Thats so not true. I've been to many local Mexican resturants who don't serve spicey food unless you ask for it. I felt like he was insulting my intelligence and my choice to patronage at this location. I proceeded to let him know that I can't eat spicey foods so I had to order something less spicey and he took it upon himself to say that going to a Mexican restaurant, I should expect the food to be spicey. Taking it upon myself to let him know that I'm not Mexican, which most people here initially assume I am based on my look, and I let him know that I'm Asian and Black and that I don't eat Mexican spicey food. He said oh I wasn't saying you were Mexican and the only Mexicans you see here at this resturant are the cooks and workers mostly. How insulting is that. Nevertheless, he overstepped his boundaries in my opinion by engaging in that type of conversation and it was very inappropriate. My co-workers said the same thing.
He could have just apologiezed for me disliking the food and said that I hope that we can get you another meal to your liking and kept it like that.
I will not patronage this location if the treatment of their worker and customers like me are regarded so low and spolen to so unergadedly rude by the...
Read moreI'm not sure if it was a seasonal dessert, but OMG THE APPLE PIE. [I came 2 days in a row and brought more people the 2nd time because of it] Possibly THE best dessert I've ever had, and apple pie isn't a go-to for me. But it was recommended by the manager and when I say it BLEW MY MIND.....came out on a loudly sizzling cast iron skillet (like fajitas do) and a column of smoke/steam the waiter was waving away with his hand, with bubbling brandy butter surrounding a sizeable piece of pie with the perfect amount of light cinnamon ice cream that was just starting to melt. Could smell the caramelizing of the sauce and the sugars of the pie and ice cream. Each bite just melted in my mouth, the perfect amounts of all 3 parts. SO GOOD. If you go and don't get it..you're missing out, like I would be sad for you and your life.. I am not from Texas, but I have told everyone who has asked about my trip, and I would tell anyone to go to Frisco just to eat at this place and get the pie.
The other food was delicious as well. The salsa that comes with the complimentary chips had fantastic flavor with greatt spiciness. Got 3 kinds of tacos for lunch (shared with a friend don't judge me) that each came with rice and beans on the side, so you get plenty of food per dish. Steak was our fave, great spicy flavor, followed by the pescado and then the chicken. Can get 2 or 3 tacos per plate. Brunch the next day I got crab cake benny...it had the best sauce (not-your-typical hollandaise) that I've ever had on a benedict, eggs were perfect, cakes were actually a good diameter and thickness, and came with cheesy potatoes that were spiced perfectly. And then I convinced everyone to get the apple pie again, no disappointment could be seen.
Anyways. I'm not sure if this is a chain down there, but if it's not, get your a$$ to Frisco, Texas and get their apple pie dessert or you don't know what...
Read moreWe stopped in and visited Cantina Laredo for the first time since March 2020. We didn’t know how busy it was going to be so we made a reservation for 6:30 pm on a Thursday evening 48 hours in advance.
Spencer was our server. He mentioned that he had only been working for 4 weeks, but it didn’t seem like it. He was clearly familiar with the menu items and made food and drink suggestions when we asked questions.
We decided on chicken enchiladas with rice. There were three people in our party so my Mom and Aunt had a mango Margarita each on the rocks and I decided to try something different and go with a watermelon basil Paloma.
We enjoyed our meal and began chatting for the next two hours. This is where things took a drastic and unexpected turn. I got up from the table after dinner to go home and suddenly started feeling dizzy and nauseous with heart palpitations.
There aren’t enough words to express my gratitude to the wonderful, kind strangers, patrons, and employees of the restaurant who gathered around me and helped support me and prop me up into a chair, called 911, and to the paramedics who got me to the hospital within 15 minutes. It was their quick thinking and actions which I truly believed saved my life and I cannot thank them enough. It was an extremely scary ordeal.
The paramedics took an EKG in the ambulance which looked fine. A Chest X-Ray was taken after arriving at the ER and also came back clear. IV Fluids were administered. Cardiac enzyme test and Troponin levels were normal. I was being observed in the ER for nearly 5 hours and discharged around 2:30AM early Friday Morning. All blood tests look to be normal(with the exception of potassium which necessitated the need for tablets to increase my levels). I will be following up with a cardiologist on Tuesday, April 19th per the discharge...
