This place came with very positive reviews on Google so I had to try and here is my take.... Pros: -It is a nice restaurant to have a dinner -It is in the Stone Briar area which means, you are in a good spot! -The service is very professional and Kaylee who waited on us was cordial, knowledgeable and absolutely delightful! -The wait times are not unusually bad so there is that!
Not so Pros: If you are expecting a traditional Sushi place, you would be in for a surprise! There are avocados in some of them, peppers in another, potato in a tempura etc. Interesting - yes, traditional - No. The reason I call this out is if you are adventurous like me, you will enjoy it (sort of) but the name of the place and inclusion of Sushi and Robata makes a person think that it is a traditional sushi restaurant, which it is not! The items are a hit and a miss even on the innovative twist. Let me elaborate A) Veg tempura - Miss. There is Potato, Avocado etc in the mix which doesn't always land well with the dipping sauce B) Shrimp tempura - Hit. Succulent and fresh shrimp, coated right! C) Panic roll - Miss. The spicy tuna and cucumber were good but the overload of crab meat on top was well overwhelming, shadowing an otherwise decent roll D) Anaconda roll - Miss. Something was off from the texture standpoint as you eat the roll. The crunchy middle catches up later but by then you have decided you aren't going to have more than 1-2 pieces of this. This has Cilantro in it if someone is wondering E) Palm Beach roll - Solid Hit. Spicy tuna, cubed salmon, Cilantro, caviar, eel sauce, mustard ponzu & wait for it....cherry tomato! This roll has a lot going on. I found it brilliantly innovative elevated by the cubed salmon which was like a fresh poke bowl hand tossed in brilliance! F) Edamame, the spicy garlic version - Solid hit. Very tasty and had a perfect flavor profile! G) on the drinks - Hit. Non controversial options like Green tea and Ramune thru interesting options on the wine et al.
Pro tip: I understood that their Salmon is a must try which I do endorse wholly!
Overall i would say a 4/5. If they tweak some of the dishes and potentially have a few "trusted customers who can be tasters", this place has a potential to be a hit for the long run!! I would definitely give them another spin but some of the dishes, more importantly the combinations, need work.
Good luck folks....your heart is in the...
Read moreHaven’t been here in 10 years. There’s really no excuse since I live right around the corner, but suffice it to say that I had some bad tuna (elsewhere, not Edoko) and paid the price dearly the following morning. This wrecked me, landed me in the ER, and left me with a rather unpleasant taste aversion - so much so that I swore off tuna and all sushi because I was afraid I would become ill, regardless of the venue. I was reluctant, but I decided to keep an open mind.
My Aunt and Uncle are in town visiting from Toronto, and this is the place they requested for lunch today. Knowing what I knew from the last time we dined here, I was eagerly anticipating our long overdue visit - and at the same time - curious to see how different our experience would be and see how the food quality has changed over the years.
I am happy to report that the food, service, and ambiance are all on point and much more improved than our visit in 2014.
We were promptly greeted at the host stand and taken to a booth. The first thing I noticed was the ambiance - a delightfully adorned and elegantly designed intimate dining space with a clear aura and good vibes from start to finish.
Started things off with some Hot Sake which was really smooth. We enjoyed that. Key was our server. He checked on us throughout our meal and made sure we had what we needed - including topping off our water glasses. I ordered the Paradise Roll (see attached pictures) which was solid! So fresh and so flavorful topped with just the right size of Mango. Next came the (not pictured) Teriyaki Chicken (which my Mom and Aunt ordered), followed by the Chicken Fried Rice (see attached picture) that my Mom and I shared. My Uncle ordered the Cajun Snapper (not pictured) and Dynamite Shrimp Roll (not pictured). We all enjoyed our meals and even had more than enough to box up the remainder to take home. Generous portions and reasonable prices - especially at lunch! For the 4 of us, the total after tax for 7 items came to $123.40. Will have to return for the Green Tea Cheesecake- that looked delicious, but our entire party was too full. Definitely adding this to our rotation. We...
Read moreAfter moving to this area about a year ago, we were excited to see SO many sushi places, as we love good sushi! But, “good” was the operant word. We painstakingly waded through many, many of the local sushi places in both Frisco and Plano. Most were a huge disappointment, and weren’t at all consistent. When someone recommended Edoko, we knew we had found our perfect sushi place!
First of all, the sushi was not just good, but was outstanding. And consistent…every single time, it was the same , and the best we’d ever had.
Secondly, the service was beyond compare! We always ask for Kie, and we no longer even need menus…he sees us, knows that we always order the same foods and deserts, and notifies the amazing sushi chefs as soon as we sit down. He knows that I like my roll pieces half-width, as the size of their rolls is the most generous in the area. He also automatically brings us not one, but two glasses of our beverage of choice, knowing we will each need another before the meal is over…this includes remembering the exact number of lemon slices I like with my iced tea. The food is just amazing, including the beautiful and tasty orchid-looking edible flowers that adorn each dish.
Thirdly, their location is so convenient to both Frisco and Plano…121 and Legacy…easy to get to from virtually anywhere around. Since we had recently moved to the area, we found block numbers assigned to locations off of 121 confusing. But when we realized that Edoko was really on Legacy at 121, it made getting there so much easier.
We really have tried most of the local sushi places in the year since we moved here, and all too many were a terrible waste of money.
We are done experimenting. We can ALWAYS count on.Edoko for fresh, generous, delicious, and consistent sushi, and we no longer have any desire to check out any other sushi places. This places is about as perfect a place as you can find anywhere, let alone in this area. It is an oasis of calm and good, trustworthy,,and consistent excellence.
I highly recommend that you request Kie…I’m sure that everyone there is good, but he is the...
