We found out about their soft opening today in a local group on Facebook and decided to give it a try since it's very close to home. We were greeted and quickly seated. Our server was Nancy and she was very nice and seemed to be experienced. She made sure we had drink refills and asked if there was anything else we needed on several occasions. I had their steak nachos which were very delicious! It was probably the best steak I've had from a Mexican restaurant in Clay county. It was tender and easy to eat. Even my picky 11 year old liked it. My husband had the chicken fajitas and really liked them, as well. My son ordered 2 tacos but didn't care for the seasoning on the ground beef. It seemed to be lacking in salt and they were a bit greasy. We also did question the peas and carrots in their rice. It didn't taste much like Mexican style rice to us. We did love the queso! To my husband and I, it was probably the best and most flavorful in the area. Overall, it was more on the upscale side so it was priced a little higher than our usual go-to Mexican restaurant but we will definitely be back!

My wife and I live only a few minutes from this location and we always drove by just waiting for the day for this Anejo to open. Well, we showed up last week on their soft opening with patience knowing it is always tough the first day. I do not understand how anyone could give this location any more than one, maybe two stars. We have visited the Jax location many times and enjoyed it, even though prices were a bit steep. The service was absolutely awful and mind you, there were probably 8 people standing around doing nothing. We paid 160.00 for four people at dinner. The food was bland, the queso was canned and cold. The biggest crime was the frozen vegetables in Mexican rice???!! No authentic Mexican cuisine includes frozen vegetables in rice. We lived in Arizona for 20+ years, so we know what Mexican food is supposed to taste like. If the owners can read this review, know that Middleburg folks cannot afford your prices and my wife and I have bets as to how long this place will be around.

The good: the atmosphere is beautiful. The flavor of the tacos were good. The not so good: the price is incredibly high for what is being served. The rice had frozen vegetables mixed in it. That’s a sin. None of the food was hot. It was lukewarm. The Birria dip was oil (not broth - seriously - pure oil). The service was really slow, but forgivable on the opening day. Margaritas were very watery. 160 bucks for 4 people for very mediocre food.

Sadly & as much as I hate to give a bad review, this is a must-kind of moment.

First, the good - the atmosphere & the welcoming attitude of those at the front desk were spot on; thus, I have zero complaints about that. However, the service was slow and seemed to be lost & he would seemingly forget about us. Horrible first experience. Example - We inquired about the Happy Hour Menu, as it is displayed on the front door of this new location, from 2 to 6 every day. However, the waiter told us that they only offer Happy Hour on Monday through Friday from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., or something like that. We then ordered drinks & appetizers, of which there is no reason for all to come at once, but everything was seriously delayed, i.e., the drinks did not come out until one of the appetizers was ready. And, to make it worse, we had to ask that the second appetizer be checked on because the waiter had forgotten about it. I get it; I sound a little all over the place, but this review is truly complex, as I would describe it. Besides the two appetizers, we ordered two different meals and a total of five drinks, and to simplify this review, out of the nine items ordered, only one of the appetizers- the stuffed jalapeños & one of the drinks - the Carajillo, were worthy, honestly, both were exceptional, but everything else took us to total disappointment. The rest of the food wasn't very tasty, and the other drinks were either watered down, overly iced, or overly sweet, rather than containing alcohol. I understand that they're a new restaurant location and are probably experiencing the growing pains of a new start; thus, I will give them one more chance. However, if anyone were to ask me for a recommendation, I would advise them to steer clear, as I unquestionably value my honesty. I do hope the best for this place, but at this moment, I give it a solid thumbs down.

This is a day later update. Reason, when I wrote the review, I forgot to include my Girlfriends input, which includes - extremely slow service, quality not worth the $138 paid for two people before the "I'm being purely nice to you tip" and that the Birria dip was straight oil (no broth - pure oil) & the Birria itself was extremely salty.

By the way, no problem with the cost if the food, drinks, and service...

Yes a recently opened restaurant but certainly not prepared. I arrived before 5 on Friday. Ordered a couple of draft beers, received one and was informed that they did not have the other Mexican beer. Ordered a Stella and after not seeing it for over 10 minutes I had to ask “where is my beer?” And it finally arrived 5 minutes later. Once we had the beers we ordered. Another 30 minutes passed and I had to ask the waiter twice where is the food? Twice he said it is coming up although tables around us arriving after us were eating. I asked once more for the food and he came back with a dish for my wife that was cold, but informing me that they don’t have my dish any longer (I assume that they never prepared it). So we sent my wife’s dish back and asked for a hot burrito. I ordered a Ceviche and received it 10 minutes later. I was OK but it lacked substance. The shrimp was cut up and laced with lots of red onion. Thankfully they had a half lime on the side as I had to squeeze all the juice out of it. To me a real Ceviche gets marinated in lime juice, but not a Anejo. To make this dining experience complete I asked one of the guys that introduced himself as the manager what they are doing as it looked to me as a place with total disorganization. An hour later they got a rush of customers and as they had open tables inside and out, the front desk staff kept seating and seating some more. Luckily we did not have to wait long for our bill and we left promptly not to be seen anytime soon. I owned four full service restaurants and we had procedures in place for the front and the back of the house. I also opened many restaurants when I was in charge of a Steak and Seafood concept in the NW. Thw owners and management were all present during the first week to make sure that customers would leave with a positive impression. That certainly was not the case tonight! I will not spread the word to others for a visit as they have a lot...

Trash! The food has no flavor. I ordered a meal with steak, chicken and pork. I was excited to try it all and it lacked flavor. The most flavor thing on the menu was the garnish. The onion and pepper were grilled and flavored nicely. If i were a vegetarian i might have been a little happier about the meal, but im not. As far as the steak, chicken and pork, you might as well have boiled it and put it on the plate. The street corn was just corn on the cob. When I asked waitress where the cotija cheese, spices , lime and mayo were she said she didn't know. When she came back she said her gringo manager said to look at the menu in the picture, it looks the same. So their street corn is literally just corn. Pretty disappointing because I really love street corn and it was my idea to even eat there. Also, my wife's ordered a steak bowl that came out with chicken.

All and all it was a disappointing experience and I'll never go back. 100.00 on 2 meals, to not enjoy any of it. First day open or not, there's no excuse. I've worked in food service from dishwasher to manager.

We didn't even know it was your first day. As a manager you should be on top of things and present more than you were. You don't send your waitress back out to tell the customer to look at the picture. I'm not at McDonald's, I read the description. In what world is street corn just plan?

Also, the music was too loud. Maybe the waitress would have gotten the other order correct if she could...
