Another meal at OMELI and I'm convinced this is a solid choice if you are looking for a new restaurant to try out in Fullerton.
Right off the bat I need to mention that they know how to cook their meat here and/or they have some quality meats. Mainly because the first bite I took was the filet migon in the Nui Xao Bo (Macaroni Filet Mignon Beef) and it's probably one of the most tender beef bites I've had in awhile. That includes comparing it to more "finer dining" restaurants I've been to. Besides that this dish has a lot a flavor, the type that makes you want to keep on eating it. Savory, some sweetness comes with each bite. It comes with a little extra sauce on the side which I'd say is better for just dipping since the dish has a enough flavor on its own. Oh, and I was beyond happy that the macaroni was al dente and not overcooked. It's those small things that ruin it for me.
The Grilled Pork Grilled Pork w/ Steamed Rice in it's simplest form is a nice meat & rice dish. White rice goes well with the grilled pork that I'm pretty sure has notes of lemongrass which is common to Viet cooking. You can refresh the palate with a bite of the fresh veggies it comes with. Paired with a side of fish sauce which for me I just use for dipping since once again the dish is flavored well on its own. But I'm a fan of sauces on the side so I still appreciate just like with the macaroni dish.
The coconut coffee is basically a Viet coffee frappe with coconut cream. I'm a die hard Viet Coffee fan, so no variation on it will ever replace the OG drink. But I like how they made this one. It almost comes off as refreshing since it's a frappe and with the coconut flavor. If I could have it in a coconut in Vietnam that would be the ultimate vibe :)
Popcorn chicken is what you'd expect of it. I will say the big win here is how it somehow stayed crunchy even though I let it sit there for awhile. Be sure to use some chili oil or Sriracha along with the sweet chili sauce it comes with. Get all those good flavors along with the crunch.
It's not the largest restaurant so I could see it getting packed quickly in a lunch or dinner rush. The aesthetic is warm and inviting with all the dark wood. Pretty sure it's an independent run restaurant since the smaller staff was hustling the whole time but luckily were still quite accommodating.
Parking is not an issue at all since it's located in a shopping plaza next to what I think was a 99 cent store.
I need to try out the lomo saltado next time I'm here so now I have another reason to go...
Read moreThe food was ok, but not that great. Garlic noodles were very plain and not tasty. My garlic noodles with shaken beef was spicy but the menu didn’t indicate it was spicy. Now that we are done with the food review…Omeli missed the mark entirely on their customer service and it overshadowed the entire visit.
We had a full cup of water spill on our table and get up 3+ times to ask for a towel because it was a lot of water on the table and floor. One of the male staff (black hair, wears glasses) had THE most apathetic and unhelpful response to the situation. He just kept giving us small stacks of 5 paper napkins. It did nothing to wipe up the amount of water on the table and floor. It was on my chair so I had to stand up with my daughter, visibly needing help at our table but the entire restaurant staff (who I made eye contact with) did not come to help or ask how they could assist. My husband had to go to the bathroom to get paper towels to continue to try to wipe the table. Finally after another request, the waiter brought out a mop and haphazardly wiped the sopping floor with one superficial pass. We were all just shocked at how terrible the service was.
The icing on the cake - when we were nearly finished, the waiter rudely SHOVED the check in front of my FIL without saying a word and left. Prior to doing so, my husband had requested refill on his noodles and without even getting it yet, another waitress came by and stood at the table requesting payment.
If you read the negative reviews, they span over a year with feedback regarding the terrible and rude service from the waiters and waitresses. Everyone one of them is responded by their “business customer service” rep Linh N., but the apologies and promises to improve are clearly empty words since, over the course of the year of complaints on yelp, nothing has changed. So much for their commitment to maintaining high standards. How they have such high ratings with this staff and service...
