If you've never had Korean and are a bit intimidated with unknown cuisine, yet curious, definitely give it a try. The entrees are savory and brightly balanced in flavor and texture, definitely different, but very tasty!
Dominic was our server and was very patient with my parents questions of all the unknowns - conjure up a hilarious Seinfeld scene and you'll get the idea - and helped them navigate the menu to their final decision.
Amongst the four of us, we got the bulgogi (savory, sweet and yummy), japchae (yummy noodles with meat, onion, pepper and sesame oil), and shrimp yaki udon (in a tasty creamy sauce that was made with very little spice upon request). Everything was very good with generous portions and a very fair price. Don't forget to request the banchan - be brave... It's different every time and you might stumble upon someone new and exciting (for us it was kimchi, sweet pickled radish -my fav, and sprouts).
We also had my toddler (who enjoyed her well-priced kids chicken teriyaki) and infant. They had high chairs and booster seats and sat us by the fish tank (who needs kids coloring menus!).
There is outdoor seating as well. My only hangup was that the indoor seating height, because it's a converted Japanese steakhouse, was awkward - the table was unusually high compared to the height of the chairs. Maybe bench seating that's adjusted to fit the table height in place of the chairs could fix this?
It was a great first experience for my parents and we really enjoyed ourselves - we'll definitely be back to try other menu...
Read moreOk, I have been to momoyaki's dozens of times. I used to go with a large group of friends at the old location off of 34th, and the service was always great and the staff very accommodating with our often 10+ party of people. The eggplant kampungi I highly recommend, it's great. This also is the BEST sushi I ever get, my favorite being the salmon skin roll (acquired taste though, my friend can't stand the texture) and the Momo Bowls are great deals. HOWEVER, when they moved to the new/current location the service went downhill. I have been on a few occasions with my boyfriend, and it was terrible most times. Once we had a wonderful waitress, who then shift changed and we got a guy that messed up our entire order which sucks because that was the worst experience overall for us; the girl was great so we asked about tipping and were told that they share the tip among the staff. Well, 2 of the 3 that helped us deserved no tip whatsoever, and we just thought that was a poor policy. We literally waited over a half hour for our drinks to come- iced tea. The next three times after that they messed up our orders too, and again some of the staff were great and some of them incompetent and not prompt at all. We kept going cause the food remained spectacular, and the last time was a few months ago so I hope the service issue has since been fixed. Since then I gave up and ordered takeout a few times, which again was...
Read moreI am Korean. While traveling by car from Georgia to Miami, I Googled a Korean restaurant and visited it.
To Koreans It's completely Americanized fake Korean food. It's so sweet and laced with sugar that it will spike your blood sugar. No Kimchi, no side dishes.
For non-Koreans Korean food is very healthy and is famous for its wide selection of Kimchi and other free side dishes.
This restaurant claims to be a Korean restaurant, but they don't serve any side dishes or even kimchi. And too much sugar is harming the reputation of Korean food, which is famous for being healthy.
Overall evaluation
First, if this is your first Korean food, don't ever think those are Korean food. Korean food is completely different. Go to any Korea town in Duluth GA and try any food there. And then you understand why I am so upset.
Second, the price is very expensive. The grilled ribs are $24. This is a really expensive and too little food for the price.
Third, the quality of food also has an issue. My ribs weren't even grilled properly. Look at the picture.
Fourth, Momoyaki is a Japanese restaurant name. They say it's a Korean restaurant, but even the name isn't Korean.
To the owner I believe you are Korean, so I would like to ask that you serve authentic Korean food with pride.
I give this place 2 stars because of the friendliness of the staff. Without them,...
