Today I had the worst experience at Shotted Coffee in Gainesville, Virginia. I have gone to this place until today at least three times a week, and they have an outdoor area where we go and take our dog to enjoy our coffee, cold drink, or hot drink.
Today, as soon as we walked in, there was a family who were Middle Eastern and they were covered, and they had an issue with our dog. Our dog was sitting quietly, did not make any sound, and did not try to do anything that would make it inconvenient for anyone at that location, because this is not our first time going to this place. But today we experienced being treated in a very racist way against us and our dog. It seems like these people have no respect for other people, only for their own hijabi families.
The owner came and asked us to leave the location because a family did not feel comfortable with a dog being there. I told the owner that our dog is not bothering anyone, does not make any noise, and does not cause any inconvenience to anyone. But he insisted that we had to leave.
He was standing in front of our dog, and when the dog walked, his body touched his leg, and that was his excuse to say, “Your dog touched me.” We asked him to step back — if you are standing in front of a dog while it is walking and it brushes against you, that is not the dog’s fault. He did not jump on him, did not make any noise, and did not threaten anyone who was there. But the owner took his people’s side, the people who speak Arabic, and told us to leave.
They had no respect and started arguing, telling us to shut our mouths, and if we didn’t, they were going to call 911 or the police. I told them they could do so because we were not doing anything that was bothering anyone. We were paying customers — in fact, we go there at least three times a week.
But I experienced being singled out because we are not one of them, and they were very disrespectful to us and to our dog especially. I told him that this is not their country where they abuse and kill dogs. Here, we take care of our dogs and they are part of our family. Our dog is completely trained and doesn’t bother anyone. But the owner still took their side because they speak his language, and he told us to leave.
I told the owner that if there was a sign saying dogs are not allowed, we would understand and we would not bring our dog. But this is not our first time being at this location, and no one has ever treated us like this before.
This is the worst place and business we have ever been to, because of their own people and being racist against others. Obviously, they took their own people’s side because they speak their language and wear their hijab. If that’s what they want to do, they should only cater to those people — not to everybody in this area who is paying for their business.
I told the lady that she was the only one with an issue with the dog. We didn’t have any issue with them. If they would like, they could have switched seats, but we were sitting quietly in the corner with my family and my dog enjoying our tea.
Unfortunately, the owner was unfair, and he knew there was nothing we were doing wrong. Just because it was “their people,” he took their side. I just want to say: the people who don’t respect dogs and other people around them, and only take the side of their own people without listening to the customer, don’t deserve my business.
This will be my last time spending money on their coffee or any of their services. They lost us as customers, and as far as I can, I will let people know that they hate animals and they hate other people except their own.
If you would like to wear a hijab, go there — you’re going to be treated differently. She was very rude and ignorant. I will give this location a zero for being racist against other customers and...
Read moreI came here for their Soft Opening and their Grand Opening today, and loved Shotted both times!
Their famous pistachio latte is incredible, and I got to try their basbosa today. It's so soft, moist, and has a gentle coconut flavor.
Their pastries are reminiscent of the old Tous Les Jours here - some old classics like the spinach feta danish are still sold but they have new ones like pistachio donuts and brownies!
They also still sell whole cakes for parties, but the Korean creme cakes have been replaced by pistachio kunefe and Lotus biscuit cakes.
The service was fast and exemplary today despite how slammed they were and everyone was so friendly. There were multiple employees wiping down counters and mirrors to keep the store clean during the whirlwind opening.
Our strawberry matcha latte was missing the strawberry, unfortunately, and was lackluster as a plain matcha, but every other drink we've tried here ismatching,
I'm so happy we have a new coffee/pastry place so close, and look forward to getting my birthday cake here...

We visited this newly opened café name SHOTTED with my family to try their cheesecake. While waiting in line, I asked where the slices were, since I couldn’t see any on display. The staff told me they would bring them from the back, so I went ahead and placed an order for three cheesecakes. However, when it was my turn, I was told that mine was not available and that they only sell it as a whole cake.
I explained that a staff member had just told me to place the order and that they would bring it from inside, but the cashier refused. As a result, I had to cancel my own order and only kept the others. Unfortunately, neither the cashier nor the other staff member made any effort to resolve the issue.
For a newly opened place, this level of service is disappointing. The staff were very slow despite having customers waiting, and they were more interested in chatting among themselves than serving. I had to remind them of the order three times before it finally arrived. Sadly, this was both my first...
