Description: Essentially located on University, The Spot is a hidden gem in Gainesville that many have yet to discover. It is right next door to Cheese Daddy (they share a common seating area), the new Hyppo location, and near Dunkin Donuts. It's a very simple restaurant when you walk in. There's a TV inside, cool bar stools to sit on and a simple counter to make your order.
Food & Service: I was feeling extra hungry so I decided to go with the gyro platter. Talk about bang for your buck! For about $10, it came with a Greek salad, plenty of slices of gyro meat, crinkle fries, pita bread, and a side of tzatziki sauce. I ended up taking about a quarter of it home to eat later. I thought everything was cooked very well to be quite frank. The flavor in the Greek salad was a little underwhelming but it wasn't bad, I'd say average. The gyro meat was delicious, lots of flavor and sliced into bite sized pieces. The fries were crispy and paired well with the tzatziki sauce. Nothing special about the fries honestly but they were cooked well. My friend ordered their French dip. It was a decent sized sandwich for the price but definitely salty. Not unbearable salty but the kind you notice on your tongue quite immediately.
Final Thoughts: I had a very enjoyable first experience. At the end of the day, their food isn't mind blowing or life changing but it is definitely worth a visit. Parking is a little difficult but other than that, I'd love to see more people come out and try this place. I thought the price was excellent for the amount of food I got and the older couple working at the time (probably the owners?) was quiet but very welcoming in their own way. If you haven't been, make it your next...
Read moreOrdered a greek salad and added chicken to be delivered through UberEats while I was working yesterday. Food held up well despite being delivered by third party. In the notes I asked that the chicken be WELL done as I get undercooked chicken far too often at most places, and they did just that. Portion size of the salad and the chicken was generous, I was actually surprised there was as much chicken on the salad as there was. Dressing was great too, not sure if it’s house made or not. Ingredients were fairly fresh and flavor was great. Will be looking forward to visiting this establishment in...
Read moreOne of the best Gyro’s i’ve had and it definitely takes the cake for any in Gainesville. The place is pretty unsuspecting for how good the food is.
The gyro was ~$10 after tax and tip which is pretty on par with other places. They were slammed as it was after a football game but orders still came out very quickly. The gyro was hot with the pita bread being cooked amazingly. The meat wasn’t overcooked like many of the others i’ve had and the veggies all tasted fresh alongside the tzatziki sauce.
I absolutely recommend this place for a gyro! I’ll def...
