Came here on Saturday during their grand opening and left fairly disappointed. This place seemed pretty hyped up being from the same owners as Bangkok Garden and I saw some really nice videos of their offerings. We arrived right as they opened at 5pm for dinner service and ordered (or tried to order) the following:
Curry Roti - This was my most anticipated dish, and I was so disappointed. It was super soggy, not crispy or flaky. Just look at the picture and you'll see what I'm talking about. The curry sauce was nice, but didn't make up for how bad the roti was. The roti I got from Trader Joe's was better (not even exaggerating).
Moo Grob Prik King - This was decent. The pork was cooked well, fairly crispy without being dry, and the green beans were also nice. What was disappointing was it came with the smallest bowl of rice I've ever seen, and I didn't want to order another side of rice for $3 so I just stayed hungry.
Drunken Wings - Flavor was not bad, but the wings were TINY. Think chicken nugget sized wings, and also came out already kind of soggy. I know it's not going to be the crispiest because it's drenched in sauce, but you can tell it was not that crispy to begin with.
Curry Clams (they were out) - But we weren't told they were out until 15 mins after we ordered, so we just sat there for 15 mins waiting for nothing. Then we asked about the Ginger Duck which the server said no problem.
Ginger Duck (also out) - Again, placed order and this time it was faster but still waited 5 mins before they told us it was out. My wife ended up not getting her food until way after we were already done eating what we had.
Pineapple Fried Rice (had to order this since everything else we wanted was out somehow) - Decent, though it wasn't really what we wanted and was sort of a "at least they're not out of this and it'll at least fill us up" kind of last resort order. My wife also said the beef also had a bit of gamey taste but I couldn't tell.
Mango Sticky Rice - Another dish we tried to order but was told it was not ready? Not sure what it was but we gave up at this point and didn't feel like trying to order anything else.
Wait staff were very nice but very undertrained and had very poor communication with the kitchen staff. One table next to us wanted to order drinks and were told at first that they couldn't serve liquor (despite having a full bar), and then 5 minutes later another server came over and said they can serve liquor. I know it's only the first week of opening but having to wait 15 mins to be told that the kitchen doesn't have something and then doing that a second time is pretty inexcusable even for a grand opening. I heard many tables being told something was unavailable after the fact and having to change their orders.
Portions are also very small so be ready to order more than you normally would. The table next to us also ordered a pineapple fried rice after they finished their dishes...
Read moreMe and the hubby went for the grand opening for lunch. It was pretty packed, but thankfully we got a table. I usually don't comment on service during a grand opening but they did an amazing job. Our food came out on time, they always checked on us and the check came out on time.
For the food we got the homemade wontons which I highly recommend. It has a red curry sauce on top and is a little spicy.
We didn't adjust spice level for our dishes I wanted to see how spicy the normal dish was. If you can't handle, or don't like spice, it's best to let the waiter know. The food was pretty spicy. I can usually handle heat, but it was a spice that built up over time.
The Thai tea tasted fresh and it was great to offset the spice from the dishes.
I got the vege panang curry that was really good. I usually make it a little thicker at home, but that's a personal preference.
My husband got beef drunken noodle. I usually don't like beef, but they had a really nice cut of meat so it wasn't chewy or grisly.
They did a great job on the regular Thai food that you can find at any thai place. But I saw there were specialty dishes that you don't see at other places so I'm excited to come back...
Read moreWent for the grand opening and ordered the following:
Appetizers Curry Puffs (only came with 2) (pictured) Papaya salad (good portion, not much flavor) (pictured)
Entrees Pad Thai (largest portion, ordered spicy and was not spicy) Bethesda Fried Rice (generic but good, liked that beef did not cost extra) Pork Belly with Chinese Broccoli (fine flavor, but did not realize pork belly was going to be fried thought it was stir friend pork belly) (pictured with hand for portion size which was on the small side)
In terms of ambiance, it was tough to get a seat for a group of 4 or more, since the restaurant is quite small and has mostly seats for 2. The decors is clean and modern, on the simplistic side.
If I had any useful feedback for the owners, it would be to add more descriptions to the menu. For example, how many curry puffs are in an order. Or, that the pork was fried and only the veggies are stir fried.
Overall, the experience was fine but not notable. I would come back for late night take out for Thai noodles like Pad Thai and fried rice since the restaurant closes at 10pm, which is a game changer...
