We were traveling from out of town (Midwest) visiting family in the area. We heard good things about the food and service and it was my parents in laws fifth time there, and we were very excited. Overall the food was very good and the staff overall was friendly, BUT our specific server Vinny was not good and to be honest he really left a sour taste in our mouth after our experience.
There were several strange things Vinny did and he had this stand off ish attitude the whole time.
Vinny didn't let us order a cocktail we wanted: One person in our party ordered a cocktail and Vinny told us adamantly not to get this cocktail telling us, "this cocktail is no good, everyone sends it back don't get it" and he was then annoyed when we couldn't immediately pick another cocktail on the spot. We weren't hesitant about this cocktail, we didn't ask for his recommendations, and we've actually tried it before and liked it, but Vinny really did not want us to order this cocktail. We ended up not ordering any cocktail.
Vinny forgot our fries: He claims the kitchen was late with them but after we finished our meal and were going to leave soon, we noticed we never got our fries. We asked him about our fries and he came back with them immediately and said he doesn't know what happened and the kitchen must have been late with them. "I rang it I don't know why they didn't come out." The fries were obviously under a heat lamp for a long time because the fries were soggy and the plate was very very hot.
Vinny ended up charging us twice for the above fries: When we got our bill at the end of the meal, the fries were listed both as a side under the salmon and also as another side so we were charged for an extra $10. He didn't catch this but thankfully he fixed it when I asked him. He was nice about this when I asked him.
Vinny messed up our chicken wings order: We ordered the chicken wings (maple sriracha) and asked for ranch and blue cheese. He ended up bringing out half maple sriracha wings and half dry rub wings with only ranch and no blue cheese. I didn't make a fuss about messing up the wings, but I just asked politely if we can also have blue cheese. He immediately said with an attitude, "You didn't order blue cheese. But okay I'll bring it. You should've told me." We told him we did order both and he just walked away.
Vinny gave us attitude when we asked for water: This is a small thing but captures his attitude throughout our meal there. We did not have water for awhile, we noticed every table had a carafe of water, he took our carafe of water and never returned another one, and he had not stopped by for awhile. So when he was close by we wanted to ask for water, and we started to ask and he just interrupted us saying, "you need water?" And started walking away. We just wanted to clarify and asked for a carafe for the table and he said with an attitude, "okay! I'm getting it!" With a pissed look on his face.
This was the general mood of our whole time there. He never really let us finish our sentences and kept cutting us off. When he took our orders he had awkward long pauses between peoples orders (maybe he was new to the system?) and when someone tried to say something he would say, "ok! Hold on!" In total we asked for new cups at the start of the meal (2 of 4 were visibly dirty), a carafe of water, blue cheese dressing, our fries that never came, and to fix the check for the extra charge of fries. We tried very hard to be nice. I'm from the Midwest and I always treat staff with respect and kindness. And we were just thrown off by his attitude.
I would come back again because the restaurant is cute, the food is good, and the rest of the staff we met was friendly and professional. But I would specifically ask for another server if we got...
Read moreBurton's Grill is an American Restaurant that recently opened in Kentlands. I've been a fan of the chain restaurant since I lived in Nashua, NH. When I arrived, it was shocked how packed the parking lot was and how packed the restaurant was. I was glad I had made a reservation. After checking in with the hostess, we were led to our table. Jorge was attentive and knowledgeable about the menu.
For drinks, our party enjoyed the Charleston Tea, Burton's Old Fashioned, Michelo, Pineapple Express, Burton's Mai Tai, Sazerac, and Sunsplash Sangria. The Charleston Tea consisted of whiskey, sour mix, limoncello, mango iced tea, and fresh mint. It reminded me of a Whiskey Sour and a Long Island Ice Tea. The Burton's Old Fashioned consisted of bourbon, angostura bitters, and brown sugar vanilla syrup shaken and serve over a large sphere ice cube, garnished with black cherry and expressed orange peel. The Pineapple Express consisted of rumhaven rum, pineapple, lime, coconut, and cherry shaken with ice and poured in a martini glass. The Burton's Mai Tai consisted of bacardi black rum, amaretto, orange liqueur, mango juice, and lime juice, shaken and served tableside with a pineapple and cherry garnish. The Sunsplash Sangria consisted of a blend of orange vodka, orange liqueur, elderflower liqueur, white wine, mango, and lemon, shaken and served over the rocks in a wine glass and garnished with a black cherry and lemon. It was light, sweet, fruity, floral, and refreshing.
Our party shared two Appetizers - Point Judith Calamari and General Tso Cauliflower. The Point Judith Calamari consisted of crispy lightly battered calamari rings and tentacles, jalapeños, and cherry peppers, garnished with fresh parsley and served with tartar sauce and lemon. The General Tso Cauliflower consisted of crispy cauliflower cooked with scallions, cilantro, sesame, general tso sauce, and ginger aioli. It was tangy and sweet.
I wasn't super hungry so I enjoyed the Caesar Salad and a bowl of Tomato Basil Soup. The Caesar Salad consisted of fresh romaine lettuce, garlic croutons, and parmesan tossed in a creamy caesar dressing. Knowing that they serve anchovies on their Caesar Salad at other locations, I had to ask for them! Other guests in our party enjoyed the Salmon Romeso, Steak Frites, and Fish Sandwich.
The Creme Brulee and Key Lime Pie looked appetizing but we were all too full to...
Read moreWorst Experience we had! Last night I went with my wife and a friends couple. Our server was Victor, when he brought our drinks, he started swearing very bad words in Spanish to his colleague who was helping him to bring the drinks. Very inappropriate behavior that made us feel bad, but we thought it was a one time bad judgement. Throughout the dinner, when he was coming, he kept using some language in Spanish that was not appropriate for the place (he was talking to us like we were very close friends and actually teenager's, not adults). When we asked for the check, it really got scary, he brought the wrong check (the check had Cheesecake , Whiskey and many other things we didn't order). I called him to let him know about the mistake, then Victor came (with his shirt with a lot of wine spilled in his shirt and apparently intoxicated) and pulled a chair from the table on the back, and sat in front of me (on the side of my friend). He started threatening telling me that was the bill, that we ordered all those things. My wife and my friend's wives both remove immediately the knifes from his side and then went to look for the manager. After some time, then the guy was removed and another gentleman came to close our check (we thought it was the manager). Unfortunately for us, then he was telling us that the bill had the incorrect wine bottle and the one that was on the bill was at a lower price, but that he will talk to the manager and leave it with the lower price. At that time, we asked to then talk to the manager of the store, who came and apologize and then waived the check. Our wives were so scared that actually asked one employee to escort us as we saw Victor still in the restaurant and we didn't knew how he would react. This is the first time we have an experience like this when an employee obviously intoxicated, with a shirt with wine spilled and threatening us. Moreover, after all this, we needed to explain what wine we ordered? I would suggest you seriously consider how you are managing the restaurant at all. Completely unpleasant experience that is far from the minimum expectations in the restaurant business. I will not recommend this...
