County Line Cafe — Restaurant in Galax

We have ate a County Line many time, I always got the same thing which was country fried steak with gravy. Went today 5/19/25 and they had taken it off the menu. So, I decided the try the chopped sirloin with brown gravy and peppers and onions. Got the mashed taters, mac n cheese, and a side of sliced tomato’s. My son got popcorn shrimp plate and my hubby got a hamburger steak plate. Mine was not good it was luke warm and they didn’t put the gravy, onions or peppers on the chopped steak. My son’s shrimp was all in his mashed potato’s. And it looked like they had just emptied the last of the bag into the fryer, as it was a bunch of little balls like just the breeding. The mashed potatoes were very transparent and had no flavor like they were mashed with water instead of cream and butter. Oh and I couldn’t eat the tomato’s cause they looked like they had been frozen and thawed super mushy. This was almost a $50.00 meal for 3 of us. This place was just bad. Service was mediocre at best. The waitress looked at the plate I had pushed aside and turned and went the other way. I ordered coffee that was in a beat up cut that I would not drink out of at home, then when the food arrived it was bad I got tenderloin and 2 eggs over easy and a biscuit with sausage gravy. The gravy and biscuit was very good but that’s it the eggs were cold and tasted funny the tender loin was nasty . My wife got a breakfast burrito and hash browns they were also cold and not very good. We left most of the food on our plates. The upside was it was fairly cheap. When we went to check out the girl asked how it was I told her and she didn’t say a word lol not I’m sorry or I hate that nothing she just gave the total and took the money. Arrived at 11:30 and was ignored for 15 minutes finally another waitress ask our waitress if she had taken out order and she said she did not see us but was sitting right by the work station and she had gotten stuff off it several times. So gave her our drink order and she took our order also which was for gravy biscuits. Brought our coffee right out, drunk that cup and she refueled our cups and said our food would be right out. People that came after us were getting their food and finishing it (gravy and biscuits) and 30 minutes later we still hadn't gotten our food so we just offered to pay for our coffee and left. Did get two cups of good coffee free but would have preferred having breakfast and paying for it. Don't know when I will visit again as we are regulars but that waitress...
