My husband and I enjoy craft beer so that was our main reason for choosing the restaurant. I wasn't expecting outstanding food but I did expect good drinks & good service. I enjoyed the Redline beer but not enough to go back after our terrible experience. It started with 4 of our party of six arriving at the restaurant around 630-6:45. They were told it was a 20 min wait so they all grabbed seats at the bar. My sister in law ordered a Cabernet and the bartender brought her a beer. She said that she had ordered a Cabernet and was brought a Chardonnay. The 3rd time she finally received a Cabernet. My husband and I arrived shortly after 7 and sat at the bar with everyone from our party until 7:45 when the host came over and told us we had 2 parties ahead of us and would be seated shortly. It seemed odd because there were many groups waiting when I walked in after 7 and all of those people were seated before us. Thankfully, a minute later a hostess came over and pointed to a table and said it was ours. We started to get up from the bar when the host came back and said the table was for another party. We watched him seat a party of 6 that had come into the restaurant after us. Our table was finally ready a few minutes later and our waiter came to take our order. 10-15 minutes after placing our order, my sister in law pointed over to the hostess station to show everyone that our waiter was standing around then pointed to the bar where our drinks were sitting waiting to be served. She finally decided to go up to the bar to get our drinks herself. A man behind the bar brought our drinks around for her. I asked about speaking to a manager. This man said he was the manager and was very prompt in getting our waiter. Our waiter was very attentive the rest of the night after we complained. The manager was also kind enough to offer a discount off our bill for our trouble. The service started going a lot better. Unfortunately, the food was nothing to rave about. I had the samon melt and it was extremely salty & tasted off. After the night we had, there was no way I was sending it back and waiting who knows how long for another meal. I ate some of the sandwich and took the rest home. I was sick with an upset stomach through the night and tossed my sandwich in the garbage in the morning. My husband did enjoy his steak. Everyone else said the food was just ok. (I found out later that another person in our party was also sick through the night. She had the fish & chips. Just an FYI.) When the bill came, the waiter asked if everything looked ok on it after he saw me looking it over carefully. I couldn't find any discount taken off. The waiter said he'd get that taken care of and brought back a new bill. That was the final straw for me. We won't be back. It's a shame. I love craft beer and pub food. I liked the atmosphere of the restaurant. But...there are too many other great restaurants with great food and great service to waste a night out being frustrated...
Read morefirst and foremost let me say that the last thing I want to do is give a bad review anywhere, but this one takes the cake. Horrible first experience with this restaurant and Doordash. Browsing restaurants in Galesburg for a Motherâs Day dinner, and came across iron spike. Reading the reviews and looking at the menu items, the decision was made to try it out. Went with the delivery option , and was then prompted to the door dash app/website. After deciding on what to eat, Went ahead and placed the order. All seemed well until the food actually showed up. and it didnât actually show up at the apartment like it was supposed to. No, the doordash deliverer (broak) could not find the apartment, so he dropped it off with who he thought was some random kid who was outside , playing in the courtyard of the apartment complex. the kid he handed the food over to , happened to be my gfs 13 year old. I want to know how this delivery driver would think any of that is ok? arenât they supposed to drop food off at your door step? Anyway, so I see that the food has been dropped off according to what my app says, I look out the door and donât see anything. I go outside and go downstairs and see her 13 year old carrying a bag of food. he then tells me that the delivery guy just gave him the food and left. we get back into the apartment and proceeded to open up to check on the contents. I then notice that an item is missing. Fish n chips that my gf had picked from the menu, not in the bag. By this point, I am just completely fed up. I call iron spike to ask about the missing item and that my card was charged for all three items that were ordered. The young lady Who answered the phone said that she tried calling me to let me know about it, but I find that to be false as I had my phone on me the entirety of this time , And for a majority of that time, I was keeping an eye on the status of the food. No phone calls From the restaurant, no keys of communication between the delivery driver and I , nothing.I do believe I even typed in instructions for the driver in case he did get lost. I decided to call Iron spike back and was able to talk to a manager. she seemed super friendly and understanding, and instructed me on what I could do to get reimbursed for the missing items. Since I placed the order through door dash, I get a Credit back. 16 dollars and some odd cents. So Iâm basically having to use door dash services again to use my own money. Card was charged for an upset gf, $40 for food that was cold/missing, delivered in a very unprofessional fashion, horrible customer service other than the manager, and me waking up at 230 puking up parts of burger and fried shrooms. I hope this doesnât happen to anyone else in the future as it was a horrible...
Read moreIron Spike nailed it for tasty beer and food!
Traveling and exploring can be very taxing and you need to stop somewhere to refuel for the next adventure and that is exactly what we did at Iron Spike Brewing Company. Emily and I were full of coffee but running on E when it came to food, since it was around 1pm and we hadnât had anything but the cinnamon roll at The Beanhive (which is like two doors over from here) for breakfast.
We dropped in and the place was fairly quiet for a Friday afternoon. I am guessing we missed the lunch rush, which is fine by me. A nice young gentleman sat us down and gave great service while we placed our orders for food and drinks. He was quick to bring out my Flatback IPA and Emâs Caboose Juice⊠which every time it was said out loud lead me to having a giggle fit. Maybe I was super hungry and getting slap happy or maybe I was just having a great time on a beautiful weather day with my girlfriend but its a fun combination of words regardless.
Emily ordered the Classic Smash Burger and I got the Black & Bleu Smash Burger. We both picked fries as our sides. Iâd say our food came out in under 10 minutes, which was great since I was beyond starving and I could feel the few sips of my beer going to my head already. The food in front of us didnât look like much, just a burger and fry but once we started digging in⊠Iâm pretty sure both our toes curled.
The french fries are the first thing I started on and they had this nice chewy aspect that made them not feel like munching on air that a lot of other fries give. The burger didnât look like much in the checkerboard wrapping paper but once I dug it out and got to eating it, it was the perfect accompaniment to my beer, having fun with my girlfriend, and the perfect weather. I found the bleu cheese being a stark contrast to the rest of the burger and wished there was a little bit less on it so the difference wasnât as pronounced but that didnât stop me from inhaling the burger in minutes. Emily said she was in love with her burger from the first bite to the last. She said it was a bit salty but that comes with the territory for smash burgers.
All-in-all, it was the best place we couldâve stopped for food and to kick our feet up for a bit. The waiter told us that the building used to be an old firehouse and once you look around, you really start to notice the small details that still remain from days of yesteryear.
Here is another fun tidbit. I took the photo above back in July 2016, thinking it would be a cool place to visit some day. Who knew it would only take about 9 years to finally get around to revisiting Galesburg to finally get the chance! Also, they do have free stickers if you ask your...
