California Burrito Galt — Restaurant in Galt

California Burrito is new to Galt. Did we need another Mexican food joint? No. But is it worth trying? Yes.

Located in the old Burger King, this place is convenient because it has a drive through, plenty of parking and is easily accessible from the freeway. The menu is extensive, having plenty of things to choose from. The restaurant itself is clean. The staff is helpful.

The food appears to be made at the time of ordering, which is one of the reasons why the wait time in the drive through isn’t on par with traditional fast food places. But that’s a good thing, in my opinion!

We have ordered from this place multiple times already. The first time I had a Pork Verde burrito— it was flavorful and good. There was plenty of meat, rice, and beans. My husband had rolled tacos; they were also good, served hot, crunchy and as expected. My son got an asada burrito without any hot sauce or pico de gallo, they followed his instructions and there was a generous portion of meat.

On another trip there, my husband and son ate in the restaurant and brought home an order of pozole for me. It was delicious!!! It’s so nice to have a place to get pozole in town. There was a very generous amount of pork in it. Plus, it came with a container of all of the usual additions— red and green cabbage, radish, cilantro, lime and oregano. I wish there would have been onions. It also came with tostadas instead of regular tortillas. The soup itself was very flavorful! However, it was significantly more greasy than I’m used to. Still, it tasted great!

Overall I will say the food was edible " if you provide your own seasoning/sauce" the food standing alone was bland, which I find interesting because the Jamaica and horchata were nice and rich. None of their sauces are spicy however one had a very smokey flavor. The California burrito had potatoes that were grey in appearance and tasted like yesterdays reheats. The rolled tacos had lots of guacamole however the effects of the guac are less tantalizing when you realize that even it doubled up in is unable to make up for the Sahara desert experience you get when biting in to their dry chicken. Honestly this coupled with the prices has me wishing the whole experience was a mirage.

We got three bean burritos and two chicken burritos and the food was so salty we could hardly eat it. I tried nicely to call in and talk to the manager and just let him know and he was very rude to me and didn’t understand why I was calling just to complain. He stated I was the only person to call in and complain. Therefore, does that make me a liar? I live in Arizona and spend much time here with my daughter as she lives in Galt. I wanted nothing more than this place to be successful but with management like this, they don’t have a hope in the world. I loved a new option in Galt as they have good hours. This will definitely not be my place with rude management...
