This place really is a hole in the wall that is very easy to miss or mistake for a small grocery store… which is actually is as well! But make no mistake, this is some authentic Mexican (and possibly Ecuadoran) cuisine. To start we ordered the chili con queso thinking it was chili. It wasn’t. It’s a moderately spicy cheese dip for tortilla chips similar to what you’d get at a ball game, but the real version. Very good, and now we know what it is!
Next was the pork and chicken enchiladas which were probably the best we’ve ever had anywhere. Particularly the pork. They were just bursting with flavor. Almost like the pork had been cooked on a well seasoned cast iron pan - which it may have been. The flavor was just unbelievable. We’ll be ordering this again.
The beef fajitas were bits of beef served up with rice, beans, and lettuce along with some tortilla shells. Not the sizzling plate that some might come to expect with fajitas now. Very good, but pales in comparison to the pork enchilada. Finally was the seafood soup (a Friday special) which was absolutely loaded with shrimp, crab (imitation), fish, and oysters all in a tomato broth served with rice. Tangy and also very good.
The service wasn’t the greatest. We picked up our own menus and were served out food before being given cutlery. Not the end of the world and they were certainly polite enough, just a step or two behind at times. Not a reason not to go, just pointing it out. This place is very highly recommended for good and real...
Read moreIt looks like a grocery store from the outside but as soon as you walk in you step into the dining room of a restaurant that just so happens to have groceries. Most of them are dry goods but hey, they have cinnamon so big and fragrant, tamarindo pods as big as your hand, and all the dried hibiscus you'll need. This is also known as flor de Jamaica which translates to "flower of Jamaica". Just so you know. I don't get my flower here I come here for the food. This day I had the pork chop special. Dang, that's a lot of food for not so much money. The menu has a lot to offer and everything has been great. There are a lot of places that have a better atmosphere and maybe better this and that but the food was good and the beer was cold, and it was cheap. So if your looking for Mexican food this place is on Broadway and a safe bet. You'll see locals here, including me and that tells...
Read moreWe went and were eating, food was good., but a man walked up and asked for some help, food wise. Blasa , my wife decided she was going to buy him a meal. Ordered it with a drink, out of nowhere, a man in a a loud tone said to the waitress, that's gonna be to go. My wife was displeased at his demand. He may have been homeless, but was not filthy. She didn't understand why he wanted him out, but all she did was give him a hand, which I'm proud she did, but he couldn't eat his meal in the place in peace. I guess some people forget, they were at one point shown some form of kindness and forget. We've been going to your place for a long while, but today, you as the owner of this place lost our buissiness. May god bless the man my wife helped out and to the owner, it is your right, I understand, but show some compassion. One word sums up what we...
